Personally, I have a better idea: Let's just accept the fact that life is complicated and there are no easy answers, regardless of how fun it may be to blame those evil nasty rich folks.

So, your "better idea" is just to let bad shit(decisions) happen unaccountably, because life is complicated?

Submission + - Las Vegas Sands sites breached; employee personal info posted

luckymutt writes: Hackers breached the websites of all Las Vegas Sands Corp. casinos on Tuesday morning, and the home pages of some of the world's largest casinos remained down through the day.
The sites were replaced with an image of a world map highlighting the locations of LVS resorts, marked with fire. The hackers also posting the names, contact info and social security numbers of key LVS employees.
The Morning Call website was able to post a screen shot before LVS was able regain control of their sites, replacing it with a "down for maintenance" placeholder.
This appears to be in response to the comments by Las Vegas Sands' CEO Sheldon Adeleson several months ago:
In October, he floated the idea of dropping a nuclear bomb on Iran, saying strength was the only thing the country understands. During a forum at Yeshiva University in New York City, he imagined what might happen if the U.S. began negotiations over the country's nuclear program by launching a strike on the Iranian desert.

"Then you say, 'See! The next one is in the middle of Tehran. So, we mean business. You want to be wiped out? Go ahead and take a tough position and continue with your nuclear development,' " he said.

...the difference between good design and Beta.

the phrase "FUCK BETA" will forever be echoed across the internet to express displeasure in unnecessary, crap changes to useful, working systems.

Here are a few things that are crap about Beta:
During the day at work I access /. on my phone. Even though I tell my browser to report as desktop, not all the page content is getting through (apparently.) So, I cannot scroll to the bottom and click on "Classic Slashdot" because it isn't there (on my Android.)
I can't log in. Seriously, I click the menu icon at the upper left, it expands to show the link to Sign In. I click it, and all it does is re-load the current page.

Besides that, it is a design nightmare. It looks like a Fischer Price toy. I presume you are trying to be trending looking, following social media sites' design to try and attract new users? I dunno, that doesn't make sense, either...I'm just guessing here.
The point is, stop trying to look trendy-minimalist. It hurts the eyes (especially on a mobile device,) and you've lost functionality. And you are also at risk of losing your user base.

I promise you this, though: regardless of what happens - Beta goes forward or it is Killed off, the phrase "FUCK BETA" will forever be echoed across the internet to express displeasure in unnecessary, crap changes to useful, working systems.

Submission + - Dice, what are you getting by butchering Slashdot ? 2

Taco Cowboy writes: Before I register my account with /. I frequented it for almost 3 weeks. If I were to register the first time I visited /. my account number would be in the triple digits.

That said, I want to ask Dice why they are so eager to kill off Slashdot.

Is there a secret buyer somewhere waiting to grab this domain, Dice ? Just tell us. There are those amongst us who can afford to pay for the domain. What we want is to have a Slashdot that we know, that we can use, that we can continue to share information with all others.

Please stop all your destructive plans for Slashdot, Dice.

Submission + - Nerd website found to make viewer's eyes bleed

grommit writes: http://slashdot.org/ is a website that is testing out a new "Beta" web design specifically crafted to make the viewer's eyes bleed. Editor samzenpus is quoted as saying, "We were hoping for at least a 70% eye bleed rate (EBR) but when we found out that we're actually generating 95% EBR, we were ecstatic. We are proud to break new ground in unreadable web design!"
