An anonymous reader writes: The goal of the Google Linux Client Team is to develop Linux desktop applications, such as what we have seen from Google Earth and Google Picasa with official Linux versions.Google had also made an interesting splash at the first-ever Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit (which they had kindly hosted at their Mountain View campus) during a presentation by the Google Linux Client Team. What was it? Well, there are some "significant accomplishments" and other new Google desktop applications coming out this year for the Linux platform.

A report written by New Zealander Aaron Rex Davies on the delays of Australian / NZ Nintendo's Wii software releases, shows how the South PAcific Region is getting screwed over by Nintendo. They consistently pay much more (20 extra dollars), and get the software much later. NTSC vs PAL isn't much of an issue here in Australia, as most modern televisions can take both formats. So, why the heck does Nintendo do this?"

TheSkepticGuy writes: Several stories are emerging that Ron Paul is doing very well in Republican straw polls, but is being neglected by mainstream news. Now we find one group of Ron Paul delegates actually being locked out of a straw poll. "The Convention center opened at 9am and was supposed to allow delegates to vote until around 1pm. At 10 am the security gaurds locked the doors and stopped anyone from entering who did not have a pre printed pass." Video and first-person account at AboveTopSecret.com

As part of the installation, Symantec has you set up a "Norton Account". The confirmation email sent back from Symantec on creating a new account includes a link with the username and password for the new account in plaintext:

I've included the message headers to show that the message is indeed coming out of Symantec, up to the point where it reaches my ISP's mail servers.

I expect better from all companies that do business on the Internet, but especially from security companies registering account details for security products. I tried to email Symantec about this, but mail to the contact addresses I found all bounced as undeliverable.

Could our government not do a bit of data mining to understand why someone becomes a terrorist and then do some scenario analysis to see if we can constructively create conditions that will address root causes?"

driverman writes: "Slashdot probably has the highest pranks per pixel (ppp) ratio of any news-related website out there. Many users have counted at least five unique april fools pranks on the main index of the site, and not all of them are limited to stories. One of the pranks is masquerading as a feature, and two (1, 2) of the pranks can be attributed to Google. No Microsoft pranks have been sighted as of yet (Vista doesn't count as an early one, either)."
