You don't seem to provide a link to anything that actually ties the Tea Party to Blagojevich, and even if The Constitution were changed to shift the power to choose a state's Senators to the governor, as they can now do in the case of a temporary appointment to finish out a term when an opening occurs, it would still not be legal to "sell" the seat anymore than it is now.

" We have seen that several tea partiers want to repeal the 17th amendment to the US constitution, which would put the power of senate appointments back in the exclusive hands of state governors."

If all they do is get an amendment ratified that only says that the 17th is repealed and doesn't specify any replacement, then things go back to the way they were before, and that means that Senators are chosen by the legislatures of their respective states, not the governors.

Deciding whether the choice is better left to the idiot governor elected by the idiot voters, the idiot legislators elected by the idiot voters, or to the idiot voters themselves is an exercise I leave for the reader.

My congressman surprised the hell out of me. I registered as a Republican last primary just so I could vote against him twice if I needed to, he's a tea party nutball and part of the faction that shut the government down. Anti-environment, anti-union, anti-WORKER, vehemently against any health care reform, the whole nine yards. His campaign consisted solely of attack ads.

He surprised me; the TV news today said he introduced a bill in the house that actually makes sense and what's more bails Obama out of the "pants on fire" mess. It would grandfather in everyone who has insurance for a year or two. The news crew spoke to a local small business whose employee insurance will go up from $1900 a month to $4600. Nobody in that shop was happy with Obama...

And Representative Unicorn's actual name is...?

The gods of Slashdot are cruel indeed, to give me mod points so that I might reward your comment as it so richly deserves (even though true justice would demand a "both funny and insightful" mod), when doing so would prevent me from pointing out a mistake in the OP, by which I mean the JE.

But consider what you said most appreciated.

Why not just spend the money breaking windows? Think of all the people who would be employed fixing them!

Because then the original investment in the windows is lost, and the money spent on the replacement is unavailable to be spent in other ways. Paying twice for what amounts to one window has a much less positive effect than paying once for one window and spending the cost of replacing it on another window destined for a different place in that or some other wall where there is a framed opening but no window, or spending it on something entirely else.

There is a reason why what you bring up is usually referred to as the broken window fallacy.

At some point (basically the point after this proposal) you have to loop around the solar system :)

A loop around the Earth would probably provide a reasonable intermediate upgrade.

Speaking of which, the Large Hadron Collider seems to consist of a straight section, then a magnet, and so on. What are the limitations on moving the magnets closer together? The straight sections must be fairly useless except for making room for the equipment. Or does the magnetic field somehow cover the entire circumference?

You can laugh at the IETF as much as you want, there are lots of things to laugh at. However, there are still a lot of very technical people involved in the IETF, and a large subset of them are finding it unpleasant that the Internet they helped create has become something very different. They are fighting the hard fight right now, and we should all support them when we can.

It is possible that the NSA or other similar dark forces may manage to subvert their intentions once more, but so far it looks like there is still hope for the good guys.

BMI correlates well with heart disease. People like Michael Clark Duncan don't look fat, but still drop dead from heart disease.

That's probably a result of his sarcoidosis (something the wikipedia article doesn't mention, but is easily googleable). The sarcoidosis can result in problems with many bodily systems. I've got the pacemaker/defibrilator to prove it :D
