Comment Hmmm (Score 1) 140

As a former competitor at the world-level in first person shooters, perhaps my cortex has adapted differently, because when I stare at the dots in the center, I can always tell that the shape or hue or brightness are changing. I can tell when they change and how they change. I can see how in many ways this might be true for 99.99% of the population, but when you spend man-years staring at stationary dots in the center of a screen (crosshair) while "looking around" in-game waiting to notice single-pixel changes out of the ordinary, maybe you learn to notice it?

According to my history professor from a year ago, the proclamation freed exactly zero slaves in the union. My government professor agreed. It seems that they wouldn't relinquish control of their PROPERTY without recompense, hence the reason the south seceded in the first place.

Then again, I prefer to call it the war of northern aggression and feel that the states had the right to secede. Oh well....

I too live in Houston. I actually drive a TDI diesel Jetta. I never have any problems finding fuel for it. I live near Rice University (Kirby and 59 has one!), I drive to the west side of 8 all the time (I-10 and voss shell), I'm consistently near spring (anything on 45 north of 610)... I don't know why you seem to assume they aren't anywhere, I'd say more than 75% of the stations I've seen have them. It's rare for me not to find a station first attempt to fill up.

I think the parent was implying that he left it ON all day for weeks, but just wasn't talking on it. If he was just leaving it off and using it as a paperweight, how would he be using it to tell time? There wouldn't even be a point to posting if he didn't use the phone in a turned-on state. Your attempt at being snide failed due to not thinking enough.

Very off topic, but you did reference your sig. I think you should go look up the English pronunciations of those words because:
- "owl" doesn't sound like "oll", even remotely
- "wise" doesn't sound like "ways", even remotely

to me, sounding that signature out sounds like: I owel wize ewws a spill chucker so I no mai spelling is core wrecked"; note that "wrecked" and "recked" don't sound the same

Except, of course, for all of the debugging code built into the dev-branch executable that wouldn't normally be there (both inline and out-of-normal-scope). All that extra code actually equates to a slower experience...

Think of how much electricity would be wasted, on a very large scale, if every computer-based operation took 50% longer merely to make it seem like it was "responsive"... your ideas are scary, both from a programmer's point of view and from a utilitarian's point of view
