Comment Good grief... (Score 1) 314

If you are so unknowledgeable that you have to ask questions like the ones you asked, then the best way for you to compute securely is to use an abacus.

No matter how secure the OS is, no matter what security apps you are running; I am sure that you will find a way to bypass all that security and suffer an exploit.

Do you really think that Microsoft would say anything else besides, ~the users are getting used to Windows 8's interface~. Let's be real here. You are not going to see anything from Redmond along the lines of, ~the users are still fumbling around trying to get Windows 8 to work for them~

I don't find it sad, other than it's sad that some public companies are run by people who don't understand their responsibilities to the public.

The comment in question was made by the Netflix CEO on his public Facebook page, which has 200,000 followers. The SEC is investigating because it may be unfair disclosure of material information.

.
What I do not understand is how can disclosure on a public Facebook page with 200,000 followers be considered "unfair disclosure," while disclosing similar information to a dozen or so financial analysts in a private analyst meeting is considered to be "fair disclosure."

I'd rather the White House not give them $250M in taxpayer money in the first place.

Government grants like that result in successful companies about 90% of the time, while private equity funding results successful companies less than 60% of the time. It looks like the government is better at finding companies to fund (and jobs to create) than private equity is.

.
The problem is that you only hear about the government failures, and you only hear about the private equity successes.

What backup plan, if any, should the average nerd have for something like this?

That depends upon what you mean by "something like this?

Do you mean to imply that an "average nerd" fosters possible illegal activity?

Or do you mean to imply that having a Tor node is OK?

If you had read and understood what the article stated

You obviously do not understand the meaning of the word experienced.

I understand the meaning quite well, especially as it is used within the context of what I quoted.

I can personally experience a month when the global temperature is high. Indeed, I have experienced a month when the global temperature is high. I am not saying that I've traveled the globe experiencing all the temperatures around the world.

Reading comprehension, you should try it sometime.

Comment Re:So very WRONG (Score 2) 623

That sounds like my local temperature to me.

If you had read my entire post, you would have seen this part which is the lead up to the sentence you selectively quote out of context:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration summarizes October 2012:

The average temperature across land and ocean surfaces during October was 14.63C (58.23F). This is 0.63C (1.13F) above the 20th century average and ties with 2008 as the fifth warmest October on record. The record warmest October occurred in 2003 and the record coldest October occurred in 1912. This is the 332nd consecutive month with an above-average temperature.

It clearly talks about global average temperatures, a singular average temperature average across land and ocean surfaces

However, if you prefer to ignore great swaths of text so that you can feel good about yourself, feel free to continue to parade your ignorance.
