But no, Republicans had to fight Obama instead of actually helping America by doing the thing they thought was a good idea in the first place, because... Obama or something.

"because... Obama or something, like he's black"

Fixed that for you. All those white working-class joes realized Dems weren't just talking the talk when they said they supported black equality.

If they are not a bank, then how is it that they are receiving and holding deposits, unless they actually are a bank or have opened an account in your name at another bank? You need an ABA Routing number for that,

Paypal is not a bank and they hold people's cash and refuse to give it back at times.

Exactly this. I'm surprised at all the tech pros who make at least $40/hr complaining about $3/month in cost for software that gets supported across multiple platforms that they don't have to support themselves. Even with KeePass, you have to set up the infrastructure and go digging for ports for each device. And you somehow trust every one of these independent developers. If you really need the added security or it's a hobby, fine. But for folks with stuff to do, fighting this battle seems unnecessary.

Submission + - How to stop auto-scrolling when I click on a Slashdot story? (slashdot.org) 2

chiguy writes: Using Windows 10 browsers (Firefox and Chrome) when I click on a story summary on Slashdot's front page, the story auto-scrolls to the top of the window. I want to disable that because I like to click to mark my place when I read and I don't want the text to scroll unless I explicitly ask for it to move. I've been having this issue for years and have Googled for solutions, but it seems like someone on Slashdot might know how to help.

Here's an article that argues that you can still plead the fifth because there are so many possible crimes that one can be indicated for that the bar is high to compel testimony. Also, there are lots of state-level crimes that a Presidential pardon does not absolve you of, so you can still plead the fifth to avoid those crimes.

The key insight I got from the article is the last sentence here:
"The Fifth Amendment is simply too important to a democratic way of life to be waved away so easily, Zelin said. It exists, he said, to protect people from the government forcing testimony, whether those people are guilty or innocent. To invoke it, you don't even need to point to an existing case or investigation."

Just to add on, people who got too sick/weak so they dropped out of the HIIT group but did not die probably affected the results. It seems like a generally poor study.

Oh they realize it, but clearly they don't care. And neither do the older ppl in their party. I will grant them that choosing to take risks an living with the consequences should generally be allowed. But when your risky choices cost the rest of us, then it's our right to reign you in. Want to drive with no seatbelt? No problem, if you agree to live with the consequences. But when you get in an accident and the government has to pay $500k for your hospital care because you refused to buy insurance because "freedom" then support you for the rest of your life because you're a vegetable, that effects us and we have the right to say fuck you, wear a seatbelt. Why can't they? Because Trump's HHS took away that responsibility from them in July of this year. [cnbc.com] What you're seeing is the last data that the CDC had before Trump's HHS cut off the flow.

I agree that managing this information is in the CDC's bailiwick. Maybe you should tell that to the White House.

Mark parent as insightful. Trump moved reporting to HHS so he could control the data and filter and spin it his way. Just like any good authoritarian. Oh, I forgot, let's keep this about science and not politics.
