This is the really weird thing about the whole mess. The whistleblower laws protect a whistleblower from government retaliation, but do not guarantee anonymity. There is no law against government officials naming him. There's definitely no law against media naming him, and you would think his name and background would be highly relevant to the story. And yet the media keeps stumbling over themselves to cover this up in a way contrary to their alleged core mission.

This is not true. I've done software work for a hospital billing company and yes, the charges were set to high multiples of what Medicare would pay. But if someone was self-pay, they instantly got something like a 66% discount, which brings it back down closer to what commercial insurers would pay.

It can't just be "he did bad political stuff towards Trump," because that covers millions of other people who have not been harmed by crazy Trump supporters.

And as the AC said, the fact no one has gone after Ciaramella despite his name being frequently published in the sorts of place where Trump supporters are is pretty strong evidence that Ciaramella has nothing to fear from Trump supporters.

Also, the whistleblower protection laws shield them from retaliation and the like. There is no guarantee of anonymity. And it certainly wouldn't apply to the media if there were. Not knowing things is fine. My problem with her is that she has no motivation to go on the adventure to fight the space nazis. Luke has 5 explicitly stated motivations to go on the adventure: 1) he hates Tatooine, (planet farthest from the bright center of the galaxy), 2) he's interested in space politics ("you know of the rebellion against the empire?!"), 3) he wants to fly military ships (tells Owen and Beru he wants to "join the academy"), 4) he wants to bang his sister, 5) he wants to learn the ways of the force and learn more about his father. So when Obi-Wan says "you should come with me to Alderaan" his choice makes sense.

The only thing Rey ever expresses is her desire to stay on Jakku and wait for her parents. So when she rescues Finn and hears about the mission to get the droid back to the Resistance, she should say "oh, great, you take the robot I'mma go wait for my fam." Since she has no reason to go on the adventure, J.J. has the bad guys attack, forcing her into the next scene. Repeat when they get away and are safe with Han. She would go back to planet and let Finn and Han go on with the droid if given the chance to choose, so J.J. has the gangsters attack.

She never gives any indication that she cares about space politics, or fighting, or the force. Nothing but her parents, and nothing she's doing has anything to do with her parents. She's doing the Star Wars stuff because she's in a Star Wars movie. I haven't seen RoS yet, but I have no idea how to finish the sentence, "I can't wait to see Rise of Skywalker so I can learn if Rey finally accomplishes her goal of ______." I don't know what goes in the blank.

How much of the story of “The Last Jedi” was dictated to you, either by events in “The Force Awakens” or by Lucasfilm?

I had figured there would be a big map on the wall with the whole story laid out, and it was not that at all. I was basically given the script for “Episode VII;” I got to watch dailies of what J. J. was doing. And it was like, where do we go from here? That was awesome.

So there’s no one telling you that your film has to contain certain plot points, or that certain things have to be achieved by its end?

Nothing like that. But it’s the second film in a trilogy. The first film got these characters here. This second movie has to dig into and challenge these characters. I wanted this to be a satisfying experience unto itself. I didn’t want it to end with a dot, dot, dot, question mark.

This is the problem with Abram's "Mystery Box" style of writing. He thinks it doesn't matter what's in the box, so long as the audience is presented with a mystery, they'll be happy to see it solved. No, the mystery matters.

Also, Johnson smashed the box, anyway.

In the Mandalorian, Mando keeps his bounties encased in carbonite for delivery because that's how Boba Fett transported Han in Empire.
