Because it is a publicly managed project, the yelling happens in public.

If you want drama and a soap opera, then yes that is how to do it. Do it publicly, make every conflict a drama. Go for the ratings. Maybe that is how Linus keep people interested in following Linux. But, is it the best way?

Each of Microsoft, Apple, and the Linux Kernel are examples of organizations with leaders at their helm that demonstrate the above capabilities.

Please show me examples of Apple's CEO or Microsoft's CEO reaming someone a new asshole on a mailing list. I've not seen one such example. So why are you trying to use Apple and Microsoft to justify Linus' incredibly poor management style?

I am not opposed to reading someone the riot act. However a public mailing list is not the place to do it.

I don't find it sad, other than it's sad that some public companies are run by people who don't understand their responsibilities to the public.

The comment in question was made by the Netflix CEO on his public Facebook page, which has 200,000 followers. The SEC is investigating because it may be unfair disclosure of material information.

.
What I do not understand is how can disclosure on a public Facebook page with 200,000 followers be considered "unfair disclosure," while disclosing similar information to a dozen or so financial analysts in a private analyst meeting is considered to be "fair disclosure."

I'd rather the White House not give them $250M in taxpayer money in the first place.

Government grants like that result in successful companies about 90% of the time, while private equity funding results successful companies less than 60% of the time. It looks like the government is better at finding companies to fund (and jobs to create) than private equity is.

.
The problem is that you only hear about the government failures, and you only hear about the private equity successes.
