CentOS is just Red Hat Enterprise without the Red Hat copyright strings. You can load it up full and proper or strip it down to your satisfaction. The latest version - 5.3 as of right now - is really a nice distro and we use it on some of our in-house systems here. If you work or have worked with RHEL 5 at all, CentOS is the same thing, just different splash screens.

SuSE is good if you want everything including the kitchen sink.

We have used DSL and other small distros too, with good results.

For a live-CD, it's kinda hard to beat Knoppix, though several distros now tout live CD versions.

By "fixing" the economy, do you mean like how some of the local elections were "fixed"?

I imagine they will sell Zunes (article makes a big deal about being close to Apple so this is very likely), mice, keyboards, copies of Windows and Office, XBOXes, games for the XBOX, and that sort of thing. I would not be surprised to see MS-branded things like computers and other electronics too.

I am still hanging out here though I spend more time on FaceBook anymore. I comment occasionally, I write a JE once in a while, and I read a variety of posts, but the community has slowly dwindled.

I never really liked Multiply or the culture that evolved there.

I haven't used Outlook in literally years. I switched when I kept seeing virus reports of viruses that would steal the address book.

That said, I have received no spam, at all, in over a year and a half. Finally, no more hot stock tips.

A Bamboo *is* a Wacom.

So far it has been a real learning experience. It is working with the PC in a new way, unlike anything else I have done. I know I have zero artistic ability but I have a desire to learn.

I looked at Genius tablets as well and they get a bad rap, which is why I went with the Bamboo. A larger one would have been nice but I didn't want to spend any more money than I did.

With GM and Chrysler now in bankruptcy, those numbers are going to go up as the dealerships fold. I found it quite telling that there were people in congress that "vowed to fight" the closing of all those dealerships. So, I guess they want the car companies to cut costs without cutting costs?
