Journal Journal: Drive

There is a good story here, but I found this movie to be extremely frustrating to watch. I think it tries to be a little too "artsy" (for lack of a better word) in certain spots, particularly with the soundtrack; but that was more of a slight annoyance than anything else. The real problem is that there are too many pauses, too much dead time, and too many shots are held too long. It is sort of like taking an extreme William Shatner stance with the pacing of the movie. The overall pacing i

I tried the Developer Preview a couple months ago and now the Consumer Preview. My takeaway is that Metro is probably ok for a phone or tablet if you get all your apps from the store, but for the desktop it is FUCKING RETARDED. Vista was widely panned, but that was mostly due to the initial release running like a dog (SP1 makes it usable) and overbearing UAC prompts (also since fixed). Windows 7 was a slight evolution, essentially what Vista should have been in the first place. I l

Journal Journal: Random Game of Thrones thoughts

The woman who marries the horseback warrior is quite possibly the most beautiful woman I've ever seen; not quite sold on her acting ability, though.
The midget is by far the best actor in the series; I also love the eunuch's scenes.
The scenes with the sword trainer were entertaining.
The little kid who wants to make the small man fly annoys the living fuck out of me; I just want to jump through my TV and choke him to death.
Also the kid who is now king; I can't stand the sight of

It's not what he says that bothers me; at least part of that is just to get a rise out of people. What bothers me is that there are people out there who genuinely hold those beliefs. People who vote. Sigh. I mourn for this nation.

Lori is a fucking cunt. Honestly, I can't think of a more hatable character than her. All of the characters in The Walking Dead have their faults, but she's on a whole other level. Fuck. I just want her to fucking die. She irritates the living fuck out of me. Every time I see her I just want to jump through my TV and choke her to death. I have never been this passionate, either good or bad, about any other character ever. Just thinking about her infuriates me.

I did not literally mean D & D. I just meant the general setting in regards to knights, kings, castles, a few fantasy elements, etc. I used to like that kind of stuff as a kid; not so much anymore. I will say that there are a ton of great performances in the series. On a side note, is it just me or does almost everyone have green eyes? It's kind of freaking me out a little.

Journal Journal: Game of Thrones 2

Everybody says it's fucking great, but honestly I was just not that much into it. Maybe it's the whole dungeons and dragons feel; never really cared for that. However, I started to get a better feel for it in the 3rd or 4th episode. Still not crazy about it, but it might be growing on me.

Murder has a specific legal meaning. Hurting someone's feelings to the extent that they kill themselves, as fucked up as it might be, is not murder. I would have liked her to be charged with something substantial, but there just is not any legal basis for it. Or do you have more legal experience than everyone involved in the (attempted) prosecution? Maybe you should have taken on their case pro bono.

That's ultimately the crux of the situation. This guy is obviously a grade-A asshole, but did he actually commit a crime? If the victim did not kill himself would this situation have blown up like it did? Personally I don't think so. It's a tragic story, and I would like this guy to be punished in some manner, but as far as I can tell no crime was actually committed. Trying to shoehorn it into something covered by hate crime legislation is just a desperate grasp for justice. There was a similar story a while ago about some sick fuck of a woman humiliating a girl on Facebook to the extent that she ended up killing herself. There was no way to fit that into hate crime legislation and if I recall correctly the woman ultimately did not end up in any legal trouble.

Journal Journal: Fucking finally

Way back on January 11, my Xbox account was compromised; points and money were spent. I called up Microsoft and a few days later they had restored SOME of my points and started working on trying to refund the money. After 3 or 4 more calls today they finally restored the remainder of my points. Refund is still pending, though. They had problems sending it through PayPal for some reason so I am supposed to get an email sometime soon with details of how I can request a physical check. Tech

Honestly this is probably the best prison movie I've ever seen (Shawshank Redemption notwithstanding). Typical story, but everything is done perfectly. Great performances from Stephen Dorff, Val Kilmer, Harold Perrineau, and the rest of the cast. Fantastic.

I've put it off for the longest time, but tonight I finally saw Changeling; I was pleasantly surprised. Clint Eastwood has had arguably the greatest career (and probably life as well) in the history of Hollywood. It's unfortunate that he's really getting up there in terms of age; he's not going to be around much longer. I wonder if he had been born 30 or 50 years later if he would have seen similar success. It's kind of a shame that a lot of his work is sort of hokey by today's standards,

Walking Dead finally back. Still kind of bogged down on the farm, but there was an interesting conversation about hope in the bar. Followed shortly by a nice scene where Rick had to lay down the law. I'm just wondering if they're going to pick things up soon. At this point I think there's nothing left for anybody on the farm.
