Video looters flash-mob robbing you blind... Twitter bans you. The city leadership appears to be doing a better job at keeping crime at bay.
Record a politician not following their own laws/rules... Twitter bans you for posting it.

Is anyone under the mistaken impression that Twitter is doing this for us and not for their sponsored politicians?

It's just metadata.
If it stops just one act of terrorism(or corruption), isn't it worth it?

...and various other justifications used to support the warrantless collection of data from innocent citizens.
Modern white-collar jobs are performed in the browser as much (or more) as they are in email.

Just like any other corrupt politician (D) or (R), this is obvious "presenting" to lobbyists, showing that you're ready for campaign donations. It does two things.

1> It has the superficial appearance of solving a problem that the public wants solved.
2> Depending on the campaign contributions, the specifics will be added after donations are made. Any teeth to the bill can be removed with money to the appropriate campaign fund or amateur crack-head painter.

It was never to protect anyone. It was always about managing optics. The right does it too. The left is usually better at it. This time, the left has egg on their face. Every policy has 3 sides: What they want you to think it does, what they really want it to do, what it really does.
