Comment Statins are shit (Score -1) 65

Statins are shit. The probability is higher to get diabetes from them than them helping with anything. Their mortality redaction overall is insignificant and you need to add high-risk patients to measure any effect at all. Refuse to take statins. Eat healthily instead.

Thereâ(TM)s a pretty straightforward approach to this: Only implement the basic functionality like AC, blinkers, etc., implement it as bare-bones, secure and resilient as possible. Then rely on drivers bringing their personal devices (mobile phones and whatever will come after them) to interface with the car to provide navigation, entertainment and so on. Assistance systems (from lane keeping to autonomous driving) implemented as isolated, autonomous units not exposed to the network as to not be remotely hackable. As assistance systems evolve, those can be replaced (also by third-party ones).

Of course this requires clean architecture and clearly defined standards and interfaces. But itâ(TM)s a lot easier to create and maintain standards and interfaces than maintaining dozens of car operating system kitchen sinks. Heck, for their unicorns they could even provide the mobile applications if they want to fully control the experience (which they probably want), and standards, interfaces and phone apps would *still* be orders of magnitude easier to maintain than whole car OS.

The point that the marketeers are missing is that selling useless shit to people is a zero-sum game. People can only spend so much money on nonessential stuff, so even the best and finest-tuned marketing cannot wring more money out of a consumer. You can only spend the same dollar once.

Which brings me back to what Iâ(TM)ve said for 20+ years - if a product or service requires heavy marketing, itâ(TM)s probably crap. Good products that people need sell themselves.

Huh? Did you read the book? The scientists commit suicide because the Trisolarians make it impossible to do science by making the results of anything particle-related basically random. What the scientists canâ(TM)t bear is the impossibility of scientific progress. Thatâ(TM)s hardly anti-science.

Absolutely seconding everything youâ(TM)re saying. Been driving a BEV for more than a year now and everything is CCS-2 over here in Germany, too, with the random Chademo here and there. Near the Autobahn you always find some fast charger, and charging slowly at work or the hotel is perfectly fine.

I love flight sims and racing in VR. Many people also enjoy VR FPS. And then thereâ(TM)s Beat Saber which looks incredibly lame but actually is good fun. The Meta headsets supposedly also have good fitness apps, but Iâ(TM)m not buying from Meta so Iâ(TM)ve never tried those.

Gaming has massive VR potential - everything sim and anything that benefits from feeling *inside* the game is pretty good.

Of course Meta and everyone in retail or marketing just wants shopping worlds where you spend money on digital goods, but nobody except them wants that, which is what this article seems to confirm.

There was also some standard generic movie script going around ten years ago or so, that listed the timestamps and events of a boilerplate action movie. It came with a list of then current action movies that followed it pretty much precisely, give or take a few minutes or additional/missing scenes. I can't find it any more, but it was both depressing and hilarious how many movies were following that standard script.
