I never understood this argument. As you said people had to struggle and sacrifice to pay those loans. Those people should be pushing so their kids and grand kids don't have to go through the same thing. If you don't have kids then you should still be pushing because all of that extra income will now go back into the economy which means people buy more things and pay taxes on those things putting that money now back into their communities. It will also allow America to stop bringing in so many foreigners on H1B visas since we will have a more educated workforce.
