Journal smittyoneeach's Journal: Unfortunately, Holy Progress is all inversions 20

It's odd to come to agreement with someone this way, but I lament the lack of spiritual diversity in this country, too. Holy Progress, our secular anti-faith, is really nihilism. We "borrow it forward" with gusto, tricking people into giving up liberty for a false sense of security "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor."
You have the partisan lie of the GOP claiming to want something other than ObamaCare, and, yet, magically, getting all balky right around the point where the actually could've done something.
After November, we'll have the spectacle of a GOP Congress, flush with power. . .somehow forget that elections have consequences, or something.
This might all seem strange, until you recall that the geniuses driving this bus, Democrat and Republican, don't really have any principles anymore, other than power. They are pretty much rudderless as individuals, swept along by a hellish current that says we are all Ambassador Stevens, and Progress will devour us if that's what's convenient. Unholy, unholy, unholy is the Progress.

Unfortunately, Holy Progress is all inversions

  • Ambassador Stevens

I'm curious, do you remember the names of any of the people who died in attacks on US embassies from 2001-2008?

Your cries of moral outrage are nothing but a fraud. You should be ashamed.

    • No, my authentic moral outrage at men left to die in combat is a straight play.

      You should be ashamed.

It's fascinating to me that you think yourself capable of issuing shame. Alas, I accept it not.

      • No, my authentic moral outrage at men left to die in combat is a straight play.

No, that statement is a lie, plain and simple. The four in Benghazi were not there for combat, the attack came to them. Furthermore we have lost thousands of good young men and women in combat over the past 15 or so years, and you have shown no outrage over their demise whatsoever.

It's fascinating to me that you think yourself capable of issuing shame. Alas, I accept it not.

Of course you don't accept it. Your party has taught you that as long as you wrap yourself in the flag and embrace the immortal (and select!) words of Saint Ronnie, you will be forever shameless.

        • No, that statement is a lie, plain and simple. The four in Benghazi were not there for combat, the attack came to them.

Your mental gymnastics gold medal is assured, sir.

If your belief that ambassadors are chosen for combat readiness (and willingness to partake in combat) was rooted in reality then that would explain why some ambassadorships go unfilled. Unfortunately for you that is not the case.

            • Your conditional returns 'false'.
              • Really? In what alternate universe have you been living where combat readiness is a requisite for being a US ambassador?
                • Let's read what you posted:

If your belief that ambassadors are chosen for combat readiness (and willingness to partake in combat) was rooted in reality

                  That looks like

if ("smith believes ambassadors are chosen for combat readiness"==True): expression

Regret if I misapprehended your logic.

                  • If you go back further in the same discussion you will find where I said

The four in Benghazi were not there for combat, the attack came to them.

Which you claimed to be untrue. I have never heard an argument for those four being sent there for combat, or having volunteered for such. That was specifically in response to your claim of

No, my authentic moral outrage at men left to die in combat is a straight play.

Which I was pointing out to be disingenuous (at best) when one considers how much you care about these four but have shown proportionately no concern whatsoever for the thousands of good young men and women our country has sent to die in combat

                    • So, I'm not supposed to notice:
                      - the difference between "being sent there for combat", vs. "in combat"
                      or
                      - the difference between a tragic death in the line of duty vs. a tragic death which was thoroughly, deliberately, consistently lied about, not just for political reasons, but to re-elect an incompetent boob?

I guess the irony at work here is that rank dishonesty, along with winning elections, seem the only talent Mr. Obama and his administration possess.
Two! Two talents, which are rank dishonesty,
      • I'm not the issuer. I'm the guy who's telling you that you're standing knee deep in it, and don't you care that your socks are soaking?

    • Your cries of moral outrage are nothing but a fraud.

Not so much a fraud as it is a conditioned response, so I cannot deny his sincerity just yet. On the other hand, he could just be trolling. He's much more subtle than RG or pudge.

      • You're right. Tribalism is a very strong influence. Smitty could absolutely sincerely hold the beliefs that are required by his social milieu. When your friends are a bunch of far-right bloggers, it's hard to allow the merest sliver of separation. Look what happens to conservative politicians like Coburn from Oklahoma, when they show any willingness to compromise. They are treated worse than the enemy. Zealots do not look kindly on people who question the movement.

At the same time, he's too smart to b

        • Think of it all as signals going into a mixer. There are those that represent a human desire to be herded, and those that would drive more toward independence.
  • In spite of your desire for an American Monoculture (TM), diversity of thought is actually on the rise here. Recent surveys show that practicing Christians are approaching a minority status in this country. You may see this as a sign of the end of times, but I disagree. I don't care whether people have faith in an unprovable deity or not, but I do appreciate seeing more diversity in thought.

My point, however, is that the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of our federal government do not ref
    • Recent surveys show that practicing Christians are approaching a minority status in this country.

This is part and parcel to the demographic threat [usnews.com] they fear so much. Their privileged status is withering and shifting away from its "traditional" place. It explains the panic over the last five years. There are no suburbs to flee to this time, which is why you are seeing this "secession" movement. I think "Bundy Ranchers" is a good generic tag to lay on these guys (here's lookin' at ya, RG and pudge). They are

      • I'm not entirely convinced that you don't have cause and effect reversed, there. Is the secession movement gaining steam because Christianity - and the cultural perks that go with it for those who hold it dear - is declining, or is Christianity becoming less attractive due to people who push such extreme views in the name of Christ?
        • It could be both. It doesn't really matter. Their fear of lost clout is very intense and will only get more so as the numbers are not in their favor. The secession movement is more of an ethnic cleansing than anything else. They want to fence off the "undesirables". It's happening in Europe also, only there it is already turning into a shooting war. The Bundy boys (and girls) are trying to bring it to our shores. We should send them to Ukraine.

  • You gotta a problem with that? You're looking for love in the wrong place. Nature is indifferent.

Always draw your curves, then plot your reading.
