Treasury: Under Obama, U.S Gov't Debt Held by Public Up 90%

The U.S. Treasury divides the U.S. government's debt into two general categories: debt held by the public and intragovernmental debt. Debt held by the public consists primarily of U.S. Treasury securitiesâ"including bills, notes and bondsâ"that the Treasury sells on the open market to everybody from individual families and investors to government entities in the Peopleâ(TM)s Republic of China.
Intragovernmental debt is money the Treasury has borrowed from the Social Security Trust Fund and other government sources to pay for current government expenses.
Under Obama, intragovernmental debt has increased only about 10 percent, starting at $4,319,566,000,000 on Jan. 20, 2009 and increasing to $4,761,904,000,000 by the close of business on Sept. 30, 2013.

What's kind of cool is how the dynamic duo of the Federal Reserve and the Treasury keep this sort of perpetual motion machine going. Don't they?

  • We're blaming Wilson for everything now, aren't we? He did it! He privatized our money. He made it impossible for all subsequent generations to correct. The cause is in the past. The cure is in the future... You know, everything but the here and now.

All your "crises" are as phony as can be, designed to manipulate your commodities markets and pawn the minds of gen pop. You only need to swing it a couple of points to make billions of dollars while telling tales of eminent dooooom(!)

    • Well, the dollar/debt/budget/confidence crisis does seem to be hitting a crescendo.
We've got the centennial of WWI next year, and what better way to celebrate than a jolly, fat conflict?
  • None.

Just the power to distract. It's like stage magic.

  • The previous guy (what was his name again? no conservative ever says it anymore, as if he never even existed) blamed his predecessor for everything that went wrong in the first 6.5 years of his presidency and then blamed his successor for everything that went wrong after that. This has been a proud tradition for a long time, too; conservatives blame most of what went wrong during the Reagan administration on Carter - to the point that it almost seems Carter served as president for about 11 years or so - a
    • Fair point.

Being as Obama is clearly the most conservative president we have had since at least Hoover

If you're going to play ball like that, you might as well roll it clear back to George Washington, for heaven's sake.
Or is that a hint at the Democrat strategy for dumping Obama, in favor of his mother []?

No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation with detail.
