My invite to Think Spot finally came. TS is Jordan Peterson's new "free thought" platform.

Predictably it's pretty bad. Most of the posts are what you would expect - hardcore capitalism, thinly veiled dog whistles, anti-feminism and a lot of of ads for Jordan Peterson's products or things that make him money.

The basic premise is that people can have open, unrestricted conversations. The site tries hard to make sure that doesn't happen though, e.g. by hiding replies to comments by default. In fact it truncates comments longer than a few sentences so you have to click to expand them too. There is no voting or moderation system so everything is presented in chronological order.

The ban-hammer has already been in use too. Someone registered the username "JordanPeterson" and is now banned and renamed to "TOSViolation1". Someone called "amusedtodeath" has already called for me to be banned for "trolling" when I presented an opinion contrary to their preferred narrative.

It's still in beta so maybe it will improve, but right now Think Spot is pretty terrible.

That's the thing though, most of the comments can't be seen. Replies are hidden by default. It encourages posting at the root, i.e. it discourages having an actual discussion by replying to people.

Nothing wrong with being a supporter of capitalism per-se, the problem is that at the moment it's an echo chamber. Full of Prager U grade bullshit.

From what I remember, Jordan Peterson is a bit of a bigot, so I won't be surprised if his platform turns into little more than a base of bigotry veiled under the guise of free thinking. A lot of bigots consider themselves to be free thinkers, when the things they're thinking are mostly just a hodgepodge of fear, anger, and ignorance. I only really watched a few of his videos of his lectures on psychology and came to the conclusion that he is a bit mediocre as a psychologist. He mostly focuses on behavior

Peterson is the master of sounding clever while stating the obvious. One of his favourite techniques is to say something controversial but vague and then refuse to explain what it actually means.

Ask him or his fans what he means by "enforced monogamy". You won't get a straight answer, because they don't want to admit it means 1950s style pre-women's lib oppression.
