Journal damn_registrars's Journal: OK, who broke the google? 6

I'm getting a lot of errors trying to connect to pages and services that use various bits of google. Slashdot appears to have been spared that problem by their commitment to use at least 90% code that was written before google overtook infoseek as the prominent search engine for people who found yahoo to be too busy.

OK, who broke the google?

  • I always referred to the earlier engine as "Infosuck" but damn, Google's getting bad. When I open Google News in Firefox on my tablet, I get a blank page unless I click "request desktop site" and then it still goes nuts. But then, it might be my crappy tablet that I'll probably write about.

The answer is Google broke Google. I've been getting served a misandrist site from there, Breitbart (famous for its fake news) and wingnut sites from both wings. Did Sergey retire or something?

    • If you're getting weird right-wing crap directed to you by the google it's probably because you're hanging around this right-wing cesspool enough that they think you are a ring winger yourself. Try viewing google news in an in cognito mode instead and see if it behaves better when it can't smell the drudgedot on you.

Again, it's giving me wingnut sites from both wings. I'd far rather get it from mainstream sites that have proven their validity over time so I didn't have to check Snopes or Politifact.

        • That's odd. When I read google news in cognito it almost exclusively gives me reputable sites. If I read it with the browser I use here on slashdot I get an extra dose of conservative noise. When I read it with the browser I use at work I get a very very slight left bias.
