Journal Marxist Hacker 42's Journal: My vain attempt to write in the style of GK Chesterton 10

I think we may have a few of This subspecies of human thought running around slashdot. A few, anyway. I don't think I quite caught the great man's humor, or charity for his enemies, but I think I came close. Final version will have the name of the girl from Rhode Island who slipped my mind, but is an excellent example of the stereotype of this heresy.

My vain attempt to write in the style of GK Chesterton

  • Unless it is something subtle that escapes me, the correct spelling of the last word in your missive is "conquered". Middle "e", not "o".

That being said, I'm not sure you can attribute anti-theists (your word) with a hatred of God. Since God does not exist, He cannot be hated. Instead, it is the active malice towards organized religion and its active practitioners.

I had a similar discussion with a co-worker about this. My opinion, summarized, is this:

There are a lot of people who are just plain jerks. They

    • That's the reason I say the anti-theists are liars when it comes to their atheism. If God does not exist, then no religion has any value whatsoever- positive OR negative. ONLY if one assumes God exists in some form (even if that form is only in the minds and groupthink of a given set of believers) and has power (if only the power of the mob), does religion become dangerous.

Yes, the reason the normal people never get the press is because they're too boring, alright. Though I'd point out Chesterton's origi

        Meh. Semantics.

God existing only in their minds is the dangerous part. Attend one of the non-denominational evangelical services and Bible study sessions some time. I've been in a couple where they break into groups and tell what passages in the Bible mean to them. I shudder to recall.

It means whatever they want it to mean. And they want it to mean some seriously off-the-wall shit.

God himself isn't here to clarify things. The interpretations given by those whose head he exists in are frequently violent, exc

    • holier-than-thou types who frequently confuse Christmas carols as gospel and think Jesus was a Republican.

Hmm... maybe not, but we do know Jesus wasn't an abortion loving Democrat.
      • No, he was just a poor and outcast and sinner loving long haired hippie. FAR left of any Democrat today, who seem to have fallen to the same temptation as the Nazis to control everything.

  • Well, that's where MY mind went. Sorry.

    • Exactly as intended....though I doubt Jessica Ahlquist is much of a slut, despite her apparent moral relativism. Some girls are just too smart for that.

  • 1) Part of it is prolly backlash. The strictness of authoritarian Christian upbringings or the attending of Catholic schools. It's too restrictive for youths, and leaves a bad impression on them. They're not old or experienced or wise enough to be able to appreciate the upsides of a highly disciplined life.

And then even for those not raised that way, as adults they notice the Catholic Church and the Religious Right wanting to set moral standards for the culture overall. I.e. a group of people trying to impo
