  • The people I knew from my generation who joined the force were the last ones you'd ever want with a gun and badge.

    Maybe urban police departments should only hire people who don't want to be cops, because it appears that the ones who do, shouldn't.

    Unfortunately, it appears that having unquestionable authority makes one into a bully, eventually. I'm open to evidence to the contrary.

    • Everyone I know who became a cop did so because they were either picked on or were unlikely to do anything else useful to society. I do know one person who wanted to be a cop for good reasons - he really wanted to protect and serve, basically, and I would've been proud to know him as a cop. He ended up as a history teacher. :)

  • Like the man said, the internet routes around censorship.

    I do wish the protesters were smart enough not to give them the opportunity to stereotype them, though. It enables them to dilute the message. Middle class people who have to work for a living every day aren't going to have much sympathy if they think the protesters are all students living off mommy and daddy or lazy bums on welfare, as they would put it.
