  • But to be forced though it? Nuh-uh.

His logic is sound, within his context, but ultimately the leaders don't preach repentance and salvation, they want to impose their penance and preach subservience, to them and their church, not god. And speaking of "easy", he should also be upset that Mass is being performed(?) in the local language instead of Latin. I mean, let's shut that gate and make 'em squeeze between the bars, eh? I remember Latin Mass, with our little books to follow along, kneeling, standing, sit

Yes, he's written about this before and his last two radio shows on KBVM were on the subject.

And while it is a bit arrogant, well, he does make the point that people not understanding the Mass is one of the major failures of the Church.

That's why in high school we were offered Latin if you didn't want to study French. Well, maybe that's not why, but it's the best reason I can come up with. On the other hand, it makes Spanish and Italian a bit easier to pick up.

They shouldn't go around claiming infallibility, at least while they feel a need to change any of their rules. They really have no "supremacy" over anybody. They are guides, like

        • Apparently you've never read the Doctrine of Infallibility. It's almost as misnamed as the Internal Revenue Service. I call it the Doctrine of Fallibility, since it clearly defines that the Pope is a human being and extremely fallible.

There are three levels of rules, ones that cannot change, ones that change so slowly no human lifetime would notice, and ones that change extremely quickly. It's always been very strange to me that the laity in the pews notices the last, and pays no attention to the other tw

You're gonna drown me in paperwork here...

It's always been very strange to me that the laity in the pews notices the last, and pays no attention to the other two.

The laity is only as human as the pope :-) And the priest will face some resentment when expressing the truth on the subject. Humans, they want the absolution without without the penance, and they want it yesterday. It's a shame to think that the laity in the pews are as phony as a politician. They only go to church out a s

            • If I go on Matthew Kelly's extensive research, 7%.

Of course, his definition of a Dynamic Catholic is rather extreme. A Dynamic Catholic to him is one who prays, studies, is generous, and evangelizes. Belief isn't enough for him. It's all about what happens after the Mass is over.....and you'd better be praying more than one hour a week as well.

Matthew Kelly's research is pretty darn close to what ends up in the collection basket- 8% of those in a Roman Catholic Parish give 95% of the budget.

              The rest, giv

              • you can tell by their applause.

Sick... Were they disappointed when Woopi didn't show up to lead the choir?

                • Seems like it at my parish. Of course, with the way the folk group bounces between Latin, Spanish, Tagalog, English, and all the others in Malo, Malo; you'd never miss Whoopi.

We've had some seriously tense discussions at my parish over a couple of Archbishop Sample's recent radio shows on the subject of Sacred Music in the Liturgy- especially seeing how often Dan Schutte features in the 8:30 Mass (yes, complete with the hymn he ripped off from My Little Pony).

      • Sorry, forgot to mention:

It's pretty easy to put the supremacy thing aside. I don't have to take everything they say as god's truth, and it doesn't automatically invalidate their opinion on other matters. I agree with much of it, but it is their opinion, their own view of the universe.
