Remember the stupid woman who was shot in the back with her own gun by her daughter when she left her gun laying around in the car? Completely unsurprisingly, she will face no charges whatsoever for her stupidity . I'm sure we'll learn something from this, right?

If everyone who left their gun hanging around got shot with it as punishment, I'd bet that they'd be more careful about how they handle and store them :-)
You're too optimistic on that. I bet within 5 years she'll be in the news again for making the same mistake again. If we're lucky her stupidity will end her - and only her - life next time. However if statistics are any indication that almost certainly won't be the case.
