Factions and Balkanization would follow. What we need to do is untether moderation from karma, at least a little bit. Your preferences will still give you plenty control over what you want and what you don't want to read, and we'll have less victims of modbombings being run out of town.

Agreed, and it's somewhat like that now -- if you have more freaks than fans, your chances of bad karma increases (and vice versa). I wish metamoderation was like it used to be, where a badly moderated moderation takes your chances of further bad moderation away.
