Journal GeckoFood's Journal: [misc] Ever feel like you're missing something important? 7

Once in a while I get a feeling that I am missing something big, that maybe I went in the wrong direction or perhaps have chosen a bad path.

I get up in the morning, drive to work, slave away all day in a lab filled with computers, drive home, eat and go to bed. Day after day. Night after night.

Church and family times are on Sunday. Saturday afternoon is recovery time for getting up early to drive to work.

There's bound to be more to [daily] life than this.

Don't get me wrong - I love what I do and I love my job. That said, I sometimes wonder if I am missing something bigger out there.

  • There's a great quote about this, but I can't find it.

It goes something like: Perhaps the reason God send you to work everyday is because if it weren't for you, He wouldn't have a presence there...

Oh, He has a big presence here, and many are not shy about professing their faith in Him. I was working with a fellow two days ago that was going on and on about whoever had made his lunch for him (he bought it from a local establishment). It was funny to hear him say things like "Whoever made this lasagna must have been anointed by God because this is absolutely awe

Some of the most Christian folks I know are not the ones who proclaim God's name every time they open their mouth. There is certainly a place for them, as an encouraging word lifts up others. And having a thankful heart in some folks is expressed vocally, but others are more quiet or less outgoing. Some quietly, humbly, and faithfully serve others each day. It might be shovelling a walk, picking up a peice of trash in a parking lot, doing their job to the best of their ability, providing for their famil

  • I've been thinking about your questions since you posted first posted this, and I'm pretty sure that my own values and lack of experience make me close to a worthless resource for you here. That being said, here are my answers.

First answer, we all have those "what am I doing" moments - in fact, the Talking Heads wrote a mid-life crisis song about that experience, albiet on a larger magnitude (Once in a Lifetime). In the end, they usually pass, and are only useful in that they drive us to examine our

  • How about a bazillion people out of work right now? And more on the way, and you're complaining I guess about having too much work? In a job that you love and doing what you love? Your life is a good kind to have right now, and maybe for quite some time.

    • Not complaining about too much work, though I have a heavy workload. Just wondering if I am the right peg in the right hole. As long as it pays the bills and keeps us fed I cannot really complain, especially considering the economic mess we're all in. In better times, though, I would be looking around.
