As far as I know, Sanchez is the only one I'd call a prime prospect, and that leaves the Tigers with plenty of young arms still in the organization (Tata and their new draft pick primarily). Sheffield is a major upgrade at DH, and hopefully they can beef up 1B as well...

I did. If Sheffield stays healthy, he'll be a plus. As far as what the Yankees are getting, I'm not familiar with the third player, but Whelan posted a 0.70 ERA at Class A, and I think very highly of Humberto Sanchez, and hope his elbow injury wasn't severe.
