DID YOU KNOW...

43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush, watched United Flight 175 (the 2nd 9/11 plane to hit NYC) crash into Tower 2 of the World Trade Center on national TV before deciding to continue his engagement at a Florida elementary school?

ADDITIONAL TRIVIA

President Bush gave the following speech outside the school at 0930, a full twenty-seven minutes after witnessing the event:

Today we've had a national tragedy. Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country. I have spoken to the Vice President, to the Governor of New York, to the Director of the FBI, and have ordered that the full resources of the federal government go to help the victims and their families, and to conduct a full-scale investigation to hunt down and to find those folks who committed this act.

Terrorism against our nation will not stand. And now if you would join me in a moment of silence. May God bless the victims, their families, and America. Thank you very much.

Upon being criticized for not acting when he saw the plane crash into Tower 2, he attempted to explain it away by saying he had watched the first plane crash into Tower 1. Obviously, however, no camera crews were present for that crash, and it wasn't until much later in the day that amateur video of the Tower 1 strike emerged and began to be broadcast by the media.

  • what difference would 1/2 an hour make? i, for one, am glad that bush did not say the first innane (and mispronounced and ungrammatical) thing that came to his head. his speaches are much better when he has time to prepare with his coaches. it would have done no good anyway. four years and two wars after 9/11 are we any better? is al-qaeda [wikipedia.org]* any weaker?

really, i think bush made a good choice. the people in the towers were already dead and he could do nothing to change their situation. instead, he chose to ma

You're right. Bush isn't smart enough to say to the TV cameras "There have been two hijacked planes flown into the world trade center towers in New York City. I am asking everybody who knows their loved ones or friends are in-flight right now to call them if you can and warn them to fight back if something should go wrong. Please only call if you know they are currently in flight,
      • Mobile phones are allowed to be used (or even WORK) on planes in America?
        • Knew someone would ask that. The phones most certainly work if they're turned on. They aren't supposed be, that's against regulations. But here's the important part: hijackings are against the regulations too.

On the hijacked planes, people turned on their phones and called their families. That's why flight 93 crashed into a field, because the people fought back. If the president had told them to fight back sooner, maybe flight 77 wouldn't have crashed into the pentagon. Maybe both flights could have

That or they were shot down but getting sacrificed by your own doesn't make for a very heroic story.

Thats why the made for TV movie that they played on the 11th is particularly disturbing to me. I didn't watch, but did they have a disclaimer "this film is inspired by the POSSIBLE events on Sept. 11th, 2001 and is not to be regarded as fact." ?

  • I owned my own business that started 2 months before 9/11. We were doing alright. Making enough to pay the bills, but not much more. The morning of 9/11 we were supposed to be at Kissell Motor Sports (a Kawasaki dealership) at 8:30am to install 3 new terminals and a server to house theior database. At 8:10, my business partner (who lived downstairs from me in a house that holds 6 people) was nowhere to be found. I went to his room and knocked on the door...
