Journal pudge's Journal: Failed Policies 6

President Obama, as he has for years, said again the other day that it was the failed Bush policies that got us into our economic mess.

But from all of his campaigning on that a couple of years ago, through now, I've never heard him explain exactly which Bush policies got us into this mess, and how they did it. He's handwaved at tax cuts, but he's never explained how tax cuts caused any economic problems other than, at worst, a higher deficit (which Obama has massively increased, through his vote for TARP in the Senate, then the stimulus and second TARP, and the health insurance bill, and so on). He's mentioned changes in bank laws that happened under Clinton.

What else? Someone out there please enlighten me.

    • On the bright side, at least we've gone from "anyone but Bush" to the more general "Republicans would've been worse" campaign angle the Dems are gonna go with now. I'm not so sure the people are gonna throw the Dems out later this year or in 2012. I think it's far Left leadership from now on -- it's just demographics and changed societal values -- as far as the eye can see. Eventually I imagine Liberals will have worked their way down to "well, we're not as bad as poison".

      • Addendum [yahoo.com]:

Gibbs said retaining House control would depend on strong campaigns by Democrats. "I think we have to take the issues to them," he said, adding that the primary argument would be how Republicans would govern as the majority party.

(Emphasis mine.) The Liberals' campaign motto, basically: "Yeah, we suck total ass, and everyone knows it, but we say we suck just a little bit less than what we want you to believe is your only other choice." And Americans are either so dumb or already converted, that'll

  • In the mind of Barack Obama and the great socialist/marxist thinkers, Bush is responsible for two wars of choice, costing over a trillion dollars. That trillion dollars could have been given to the poor, to turn them into the middle class, and thus creating perpetual wealth. Under Bush, the march towards iron clad regulatory control slowed down (but really wasnt reeled back). Because Bush didnt pass even more draconian legislation, more wealth has been concentrated into the hands of the rich, stolen from th

No, you're thinking too much like a capitalist, that having and using money, as a private citizen, creates wealth. A socialist thinks that government spends money to create wealth.

None of the above explanations make any sense to me.

      Shock. :D

Remember, Obama isn't your garden variety country club politician. He really believes that stuff.

Frankly, I don't think he does. I don't think even he believes Bush policies led to the rcession -- else he would attempt to professorially explain it to us -- and I think he says it knowingly just to try to score political points in an election year.

      • The American left is not interested in creating any wealth, either through private industry or government intervention. The American Left are best described as Eco Marxists. I'd prefer industrialist socialists to what we are dealing with in this administration. At least the industrialists are interested in producing something... the Eco Marxist views wealth AND humanity as the bad guy....
