Journal pudge's Journal: Rick Larsen Opposes Barack Obama 13

The Herald reports today that a local Congressman was complaining about a lack of experience on the top ticket in the nation:

"It is a terrible pick," said U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash. "The first question ... to ask is, 'Can this person [serve as President].'"

Oh, I'm sorry, he was talking about Sarah Palin, not Barack Obama. Huh. Never mind.

  • Obviously Palin was an interesting choice for a ton of reasons. After a day or so to let it sink in, one thing occurred to me. While choosing her in some ways took one of the big attack points - Obama's lack of experience away from them to some degree, it also means that any time the Democrats try to criticize her lack of experience, they are essentially reminding voters of their own candidate's lack of experience. And obviously it allows for an easy reply - "oh yeah, lack of experience from our VP candidat

And obviously it allows for an easy reply - "oh yeah, lack of experience from our VP candidate? So does your Presidential candidate."

But they still think they win here.

It's like Obama magically got experience just because Palin was chosen.

      It's delusional. :-)

      • But they still think they win here.

Correct -- right after McCain's choice was revealed, the very first Obama campaign response was questioning someone with zero foreign policy experience being a heartbeat away from the presidency. They know full well that everyone on this side of the IQ curve are obviously going to think "well, but with your ticket that's also what we'll be getting, only even closer to the presidency than that!". So they're relying on securing basically all of the lower half vote, of people

        • I don't think I want to touch the intelligent part of your comment. But I think it is definitely the case that being a conservative is more difficult and that's why you see so few left or who withstand the forces pulling on them once elected. It's not that difficult to support limited, especially federal government - that the government should be there to keep us safe and help those who absolutely cannot help themselves and just leave everyone else the hell alone. But it is much more difficult to stick to

All you have to do to argue at length and in detail against the liberal fascist case is consider history.

Yes, but that requires study and practice in the disciplines of logic and history and so on. By default humans are an emotive bunch.

              • I don't dispute this, but usually after two or three examples of fear used to effect enslavement, that emotive streak can, sometimes, break out of the intellectual rut.

I don't think there is any significant number of people who would think that Obama's lack of experience is somehow canceled out by hers, no matter how low your IQ is.
