Journal pudge's Journal: A Challenge 13

Find any true / fair / accurate representations of Republicans in this video. I was unable to, maybe you'll have better luck.

It's yet another example of how the left is completely willing to lie as much as possible to win.

  • Don't confuse the issues with the facts [sing365.com].

I made a similar statement just the other night about whatever it was that BHO had said that day.

  • I saw this posted on Digg but didn't bother clicking it. Figured I'd actually take a peek when I saw this post. OK I get that it's probably meant to be satirical - and maybe even in the right context, I could actually laugh at some of it. But given the fact that a significant portion of people who view it will believe it's true, I just can't be so lighthearted about it. Ok the part about laughing at it probably isn't true either. I think part of the problem is it really isn't well-written enough to be fu

The problem is that satire has to be rooted in fact to be successful. The only satire here was the self-parody of the Democrats themselves, who think that this actually makes any sense. I thought about refuting it point by point, but then I thought it would be easier to ask someone to point out any part of it that was true. So far, no takers.
  • It's exactly things like this that made switch my registration to Independent rather than Democrat when I was getting fed up with the Republicans in the last decade (between Bush, Rick Santorum, and the idiocy of my particular local politics, I don't think I can be blamed for this). The crescendo of attack politics from the Dems this cycle is getting severely on my nerves, all the more so because Dem attacks tend to get more attention in the mainstream than the constant low-level stream of far-right invect

Of course, as a card-carrying member of both the NRA and the ACLU (as I often say, the only way to cover your ENTIRE bill of rights in as few organizations as possible)
I dunno, I think maybe that doesn't cover the 10th Amendment very well.

it's almost a dead certainty that I'm never going to see the mostly-isolationist, fiscal conservative, social liberal I want to vote for.
      McCain is pretty damned close.

Hasn't the Neccessary & Proper Clause been used to carve up the 10th such that it's effectively dead anyway?

        McCain is pretty damned close.

The mostly-isolationist part is the tough one. Historically isolationists haven't exactly fared so well - as I'm sure you're well aware because you probably used the word "mostly" with some consideration. The bigger problem though is the spiderweb of interconnections especially long-term. One of the big ones obviously would be US involvement with Israel. Claims that hands off there would mea

McCain would be, except that after Bush I'm having a hard time trusting that we'll start backing off our overseas troop deployments, not to mention that McCain lacks a stellar record on social liberal values.

Really, lately, I'm holding my nose no matter what--Bush has shattered my trust in the Republicans (why couldn't he have been more like his dad) and pretty much the entire Dem Congress has been repeatedly proving they're not worthy of earning my trust.

At some point, I wish either McCain would come out w

McCain would be, except that after Bush I'm having a hard time trusting that we'll start backing off our overseas troop deployments

I trust McCain more than anyone else with putting our troops in a position to be as effective as possible with the least risk to themselves as possible, while working to resolve Iraq's problems so as many as possible of our troops can come home as soon as possible.

not to mention that McCain lacks a stellar record on social liberal values.

I disagree entirely. Can you give me one example?

At some point, I wish either McCain would come out with some strong and at least semi-controversial stands on things like upholding our 4th Amendment rights with regard to wiretapping or God forbid supporting gay marriages

Gay marriage is not a federal issue, except in preventing one state from forcing it on another. I think what you'll see is that McCain won't move to try to stop California or Massachusetts, whi

A couple of things that struck me about the points made:

    a) Most of the things attributed to Republicans I'd never heard before. And 1) I follow politics/this kind of stuff, and 2) you can't hardly swing a dead cat without hearing what Liberals think of Republicans, what with them owning almost all of the major media (and not afraid to abuse it). So I'm inclined to believe that most of it was actually just made up, on the spot, for the video.

    b) The implication is that while Repub
    • So for example, they claim "Republicans are against hybrids" (really?), with the implication that Democrats are for them. Which is true on this issue...

I don't think you'd find too many Republicans who would grant that premise. At worst, I think you could say Republicans don't care about hybrids - that the market should decide. Detroit made the cars they thought people wanted and on the SUV & big vehicles, they were right for a long time. If you want to blame someone for poor fuel economy improvement over the last - what - 10 to 15 years - Americans in large part need to look in the mirror. The big three are now bearing the brunt of not adjusting

      • I don't think you'd find too many Republicans who would grant that premise.

Well, that was in the context of it being one example where it was Democrats actually being honest about themselves (but practically the only one in that video). I.e. it's true for them (and as for Republicans being against hybrids, only "close", as I indicated in the subject line).

I was also projecting a little of myself, as I'm generally against hybrids, mostly because they're a kludge and exactly the wrong focus IMO, and also some

Looking back I see that you were actually sticking more to the topic posed compared to my tangent. Now that school is out & I'm spending more full days with the kids, keeping on topic often gets overpowered by a need for adult discussion.

I was also projecting a little of myself, as I'm generally against hybrids, mostly because they're a kludge and exactly the wrong focus IMO, and also somewhat because they're a vehicle (pardon the pun!) for Liberals to feel superior to everyone else.

I don't necessarily have problems with kludges - sometimes a little duct tape used just the right way can be both a kludge and a thing of beauty. Though I'm sure that's a subjective, matter of taste thing. The Prius in particular, has some cool engineering tricks -

Heh, now there's something that can be hard to find here on Slashdot! :) Pudge's journal is definitely a good place to look, tho.

But not as a be-all-end all savior

That's the basis of my major objection to them, fearing that people will and are not seeing them as merely a temporary stopgap measure, but are thinking that hybrid tech and continued oil dependence are the future, and taking away focus from a real solution(s). Examples of this, in my mind, are Toyota announcing that
