Journal pudge's Journal: The UN Is Fascist 8

Well, the world has changed since the old world of voluntary commitments. ... the voluntary approach doesn't work. ... We're in a world where people are emitting all over the globe. It's sort of like a speeding problem. You know, we're emitting much too much carbon. We're going much too fast. And you don't set a speed limit through voluntary limits.

-- Timothy Wirth, president of the U.N. Foundation and Better World Fund

The UN Is Fascist

  • How do you define it?

I think the Wikipedia definition covers it pretty well: "Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology ... that considers individual and other societal interests subordinate to the needs of the state." Except, of course, that "the state" is not a state. And I'd add that "authoritarian" here includes the concept of force.

And what's worse is that by definition the UN is literally incapable of the force this UN representative is speaking of, so he is talking about violating the UN Charter. The only way to
      • I may just be being thick, but wouldn't this U.N. person disagree with you then on the application of the label, since he no doubt considers fighting Global Warming a "societal interest"? Versus subjugating such societal interests for the good of the state.

Sure. Any time you take away someone's freedom it's because you think there's some greater interest, any of which you could broadly define as for "society." Doesn't mean you're not a fascist.

          • Okay, so yours is not necessarily the wikipedia definition, rather just basically the taking away of someone's freedom for some greater interest. So then are speed limits, for example, fascist? Not to imply that the example you journaled about is that trivial, but doesn't it point to the fact that we're all technically fascists? That is, unless one is an anarchist, we all justify sacrificing freedoms for the good of society, as we see it. Just some take it farther than others.

              No.

So then are speed limits, for example, fascist?

No. They do not take away any sovereign or inherent rights, and they are agreed to (essentially) democratically, and do not violate any laws. The UN rep here wants to take away our sovereign rights, do so without respect to democracy, and against both the laws of our country and the charter of the UN.

              • Okay, so a non-fascist is someone who believes that no matter how important an issue is, if it can't be done democratically, then it shouldn't be done? Are you pro-life?

I didn't say everything had to be done democratically. Indeed, as a regular reader of my journals, you would know I am abjectly opposed to that notion, as our nation was founded AGAINST that notion.

It's been a business doing pleasure with you.
