And how did they eliminate poverty? Just redefine the word til nobody met it? Ok, ok, I knkow in ST they have replicators, but the idea of eliminating something by shifting definitions has worked before. In fact, "they" just a few years ago shifted the meaning of, for example, high blood pressure, because "too many" people had gotten themselves down to the "accepted" range. Oops, can't have that! The Republican party will be in power for a certain amount of time, then they will start to appease the Democrats, then they will lose power, then they will wonder WTF happened, then they will gain a backbone and bring back Republican party only to have the cycle continue all over again.
President Bush seems to be trying to appease everyone but is pissing off both sides. Why do they never learn

I'd say the more interesting topic is why should the Republicans feel the need to appease the Democrats at all. If the policies work and the people give high approval ratings to Congress and Bush for the legislation passed, the Reps should never need to appease the Dems. The problem is that people have now seen the Republican agenda, and too many of them don't like it.

So, far I've been doing nothing but metamoderating for the last 30 odd days... Be nice to see some mod points for a change.
Not that I'm complaining...
Perhaps a new system where mod-point issuances are also taken into consideration of how much NEGATIVE mods as well as positive mods. This way, we can give MORE mod points out... and not break the karma bank.
