Journal pudge's Journal: New Year Grinch 9

It's about that time of year, where I say "bah, humbug!" to the New Year. I couldn't care less and have no real idea why anyone else does. And last year I recorded a song expressing this.

  • Not somewhere I can listen to your song...

But, enjoy the holiday for what it is. An oppertunity to spend time with friends and family. Even though there is nothing special about an anniversery, I dare you to not do anything special for your wife that day either... ;-)
  • ...there IS cause for celebration each year, as we get to OD on college football. It's the same reason we can celebrate St. Patrick's day: it's always around the start of March Madness.
    • Actually St. Patrick's day is more a celebration of beer, whereas New Years is.... well ok maybe there is a connection.
    • Except that I generally don't care about college football, and the one game I likely will watch (USC) is not even on Dec. 31/Jan. 1.

However, this year the NFL has many games on Jan. 1, so that's good. And the Bruins play at 10 a.m. (my time) on Jan. 2.
  • Would it help if the New Year were tied to the vernal equinox, or something?
    • As I don't believe in astrology, no. I see no significance of any kind in such things.
      • Heh; the only significance of the vernal equinox is astrology? For me it's the fact that Winter's over and any chances of good weather (defined as cold and snowy, a rare phenomenon in Texas) for the next eight or nine months is pretty much shot. But I suppose that point actually occurs before the equinox.

        Anyway, happy new year. :P

(For the record, this has been just about the most unnoticeable "New Year's Day" I've had in a long time. We did stay up late last night, though didn't make it till midnight

No. It has *no* significance for me.

Even if it happened at the same time every year, I don't have a habit of celebrating changes in the weather.
