Journal damn_registrars's Journal: Possibly the worst slashdot discussion ever...
I am posting this to my journal largely because I still find it funny to go back and read through this. It was a "discussion" of sorts regarding marijuana politics.
At least, that was what I was looking for when I replied to a post titled "Hemp" under the slashdot topic of What would you do as president?
My post lead to the birth of two long sub-threads, one between me and nunyadmbinness, who insulted me a few times and then gave up, and an even longer thread between me an AK Marc, who for some reason felt it worthwhile to insult me repeatedly. From this begins the fun...
I'll start by showing that even in his very first response to me he couldn't restrain his urge to sling insults to somehow drive his argument home. But it gets more fun from there...
Not long after, the same friendly slashdot member went hard to work trying to demonstrate me to be a hateful liar by way of his own repetition. We'll see this same masterful argument rebutted many times as we continue down the thread...
He eventually started to obsess over eating marijuana brownies, likely since he was unwilling to admit the dangers of smoking. He'll bring this one up repeatedly, and try repeatedly to get me to make a link between lung cancer and digestion. Of course his link would be worthwhile if I had ever stated it, but we won't let that get in his way.
But then as he started to run out of insults to throw at me, he decided it was time to go for the winning drive by invoking Goodwin's law.
But wait, Goodwin's law actually states that the person who compares the other to Hitler (or the Nazis) loses, right? Well, we won't let that get in his way when he suggests that I am about to go after the Jews.
Shocking here, really. I figured at this point he'd just give up and walk away. But indeed he must have thought that for some reason he still had honor to defend, because he kept coming back.
So of course he then followed by showing how my wanting to keep the laws as they are is a hateful thing to do. In the same post we also see him try to abuse my original post, of course without reading the text of it. I particularly like how that one ends with him calling me a Nazi - watch for him to deny that later.
One of his better replies was here where he started with one of my statements, and then ignored it completely, instead trying to further his agenda of declaring me to be a liar. Later came this little gem where he tried to claim that he didn't actually call me a Nazi. This parallels well with this statement of his hatred where he tries to label me as an angry person keeping lists of people to throw in jail.
Eventually, on January 28th (almost 2 weeks after the initial post), he finally gave up. The thread had forked into three parallel threads, including one where I suggested he check the firehose to see a posting on "The age of Endarkenment" - where an author mentioned that some people in that set see truth begins after three repetitions. Interestingly enough, he called me a liar far more than three times, without actually showing where the supposed lies were.
But probably the best of his final gems in the thread was here, where he again resorted to calling me a Nazi. I guess after he started with it, then later tried to detract on it, he figured he might as well go back to it.
