You may remember that I was thinking about getting LASIK back in July, well yesterday I had the procedure done. The whole thing took about 2 hours, but the procedure couldn't have been more than 15 minutes. Overall, I was very pleased with the procedure. Psychologically it wasn't fun but the actual process was relatively painless.

I had the normal side temporary side effects: halos, dryness, but really a lot of less than I expected. I went for my 24 hr follow up today and I tested 20/20, which is really good for only 24hrs after the procedure. I shouldn't be at 100% for at least 2 weeks.

The funniest exchange occurred right before the surgery, one of the assistants comes in to get me from the pre-op room. I'm sitting their relaxed as can be, playing a video game on my cell phone. She looks at me and says, "Boy your the most relaxed person I've ever seen before this." I told her that since you charged my credit card, these is no backing out so why panic over the inevitable.

So we get to the laser room which is really cold because it is temperature and humidity controlled. I walk in there and see the huge laser apparatus and a small terminal where they enter in the data:

• ME: I hope that isn't windows!
• Technician: laughs, yes it is but its the good one
• ME: There is no "good" version of windows
• Technician: oh this is windows NT on a Pentium 166
• ME: Are you only using that as a terminal to pass the information to the laser or is this machine actually controlling the laser?
• Technician: its only a terminal

Everything worked out just fine, and I was walking out of the laser room, the technician laughingly exclaimed:

"Not bad for windows, huh kid!"

Can linux give you 20/20 eyesight.

That's GREAT!

I'm thrilled for you. My exam the next morning was 20/25, so you should be sitting pretty soon. Probably around 20/15.

Congratulations! Make sure you keep us posted on night driving and such.

What was your eyesight before the surgery? I have a rahter high power (around -6), and also some cylindircal. Guess its best for me to continue with contacts...
