Journal Philip K Dickhead's Journal: All About NSA's and AT&T's Big Brother Machine 13

Blogger bewert has an in-depth investigation of the Narus 64 equipment used in the alleged AT&T/NSA wiretapping, and its manufacturer. Specifically, this equipment was the Narus ST-6400, a machine that was capable of monitoring over 622 Mbits/second in real time in May, 2000... The latest generation is called NarusInsight, capable of monitoring 10 billion bits of data per second. Are they capturing and analysing every bit of message traffic containing "Naurus ST-6400"?

  • Don't you think? I'd think they'd want something with multiple interfaces in the 10-20 TBit range...but then we've never had the most technically able people in AT&T or the NSA, have we?
    • I wouldn't want to bet my place against the wall or my Guantanamo time-share on that - there's no way of knowing what they might have that hasn't been leaked...
      • My point was that the volumes are getting rather impressive. Even at a mere 664 Mbit, there's no way for anybody to examine that record manually- they're going to HAVE to use relatively inefficient data mining techniques that a mere substitution code would effectively defeat.
        • Oh, I see. My concern is the relative lack of uproar all of these encroachments are causing - figure as long as the entertainment opiates keep flowing, the sheeple will allow themselves to be herded onto a treadmill spinning faster and faster for the further gain of an "elite" over-class - I love my country, it's the government I fear - are the sheeple worth saving, or should those of us who see what's coming just tuck and run?

I think we should offer the sheeple the one real choice that the major politica
            • I only want to see electric power increase if we are going to do away with archaic and stupid laws regarding smokestack emissions. Instead of mandating equipment (ie, scrubbers), mandate allowed levels of output, similar to how they kinda do it on cars. Who cares whether PEPCO uses scrubbers or magical incantations, as long as the crap spewing into the air is clean.

Oh, and kick those people from Massachusetts in the nuts. Windfarms off the coast. Deal with it.
            • I'll go with you right up until the idea of a "third party": I run every election year as an *absolute* independent - my first year eligible and campaigning, I know I received one vote for POTUS for me - my own (2000) - in 2004, if everyone who responded positively to my exit poll told the truth, I had 10 votes +. In 2008, I'm hoping for 100, and by the time I'm the age Reagan was when *he* won, I'll have a grass-roots plurality (assuming we're all still alive and haven't been conquered by Switzerland or s
