Journal Em Emalb's Journal: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? 15

Sometimes, when I play pick the random topic game, I will go to the beginning topic, since I seem to hit the mid-range topics more often. Anyhow.

I just posted my 511th! comment in my short tenure here.

My question for the day

How many posts do you have?

What topics do you primarily post in?

Me, I stick mainly to journals and OS stuff, with the occasional ask slashdot and YROs. I recently received my new thought-shielder 2763a Tin foil hat, complete with retina faker and thumb-print generator.

yeah, I didn't have anything better to do, and obviously, you don't either.

  • I have 412 comments. When I discovered journals 4 months ago, I had fewer than 20 comments. I rarely post in stories, because most of the things I think of have already been said several times over by the time I read the article. I read mostly stories from polls, Science, YRO, Ask Slashdot and Apple categories. My tinfoil hat is on backorder. Apparently they don't stock them in Graphite. :)
  • I've posted 43 comments

I post in everything, but usually more trollable articles, not crappy ones. You can view my posting policy here [slashdot.org].
  • Every once in a while, a story will come along that I'll post 20 replies to.

I would have broken the 1000 barrier a long time ago, but on various occasions, I've left /. for periods of many months.

  • I have 193 posts (194 including this one). It took me about... 2 years to get up to 140 or so and then once I started communicating in my journal and others I've don 50 or so posts in the last month and a half.

I usually do YRO and Governmental replies on stupid posts and then I comment on entertainment stuff (music, movies, etc). Well that and journals.
  • I have 2231 comments. I mostly post everywhere. The last six months has been about 80-90% journals.

If I had been posting at my current rate since joining Slashdot, I have no doubt I would be at about 7500 comments.

Hell, if I were posting at my current rate when I first started, I have no doubt that I might have been tapped to be one of the first moderators. But I was just a lurker at that time.

      Damnit you pulled ahead again.

I have been falling behind lately, as it is I now stand at a mere 2056 posts.

I have actually been posting more journal entries lately then actual posts!!

Once I got my +1 bonus I went hog wild, yaah! Heh. Took me about two years to get it, but once it is gained it is easy to maintain.

When I do post to stories I am normally one of the earlier posters, since I refresh /. so often, heh.
      • You are right that the +1 bonus is harder to hit than to maintain. I suspect lots of moderators read at +2 or higher.

Ironically, I'm far more often one of the last posters than one of the first. Lately, I've given up trying to have a good early post. Mods are usually decent if you actually say something late that hasn't been said yet.

Also, reading 'Ask Slashdot', 'YRO', and other categories that don't always wind up on the front page by default gets you into discussions with decent S:N ratios, and a good chance for an upmod.
  • Just from reading the comments here, I see that most people---at least most people who responded---write more in and thanks to journals. I have to say that its kinda funny that you have a troll living in your journal, but what the heck?

Anyway, I have about 350 or so; I'd have more if it wasn't for that stupid lameness filter (how many minutes before I can post again? Damnit -- I can type 80 wpm, so it doesn't take that long to spit one out... grr...) slowing me down...

  • Wow. I hadn't realized I've posted that much.

I post on just about any topic that catches my eye and I think I have something worth saying.

  • That was quite the trick you played with your next journel :)
I currently have 15 comments - about 1/2 of which are in journels. I constantly think I should put more stuff up there - but never get around to it..
Comments end up all over the place - I find something interesting and if I have a point that has not yet been made it goes up - I seem to lean towards tin-hat theories but try and pretend to be normal by lining the inside of my normal looking hat with foil :)
  • 1937 (including this one).

I usually post in journals. Next would be science, java (and programming) and games. Then askSlash, then I hit the OS boards, simply to try and yell my "MS isn't entirely bad, and Linux isn't the answer for everything", and I've been poking around on YRO, but its gotten me more freaks than everything else (lotsa extremists there), so I should prolly stop that ;-)
  • For a while when I was full-on karma whore (yep, I hit the cap. I even submitted a story that I didn't give to flying frigs about, just becuase I knew it would get accepted. No, I'm not proud)
I'd post in anything and everything.

Mostly if I can think of something funny related to the topic, I post it. But mostly, I prefer OT ramblings. Attached to the weekly poll there was a great OT rant on regional food- they guy with all the SF references in his posts was all over that.
  • I'm surprised at how many posts I've made.

I usually like to read about any changes in web browsers, sometimes the Linux kernel, XFree86, evolution, sometimes case mods, goofy projects [monorail in backyard]. I don't read too many posts, because often times people get all upset so easily. I usually try to make an effort to read most journal entries, when I have the time, because I think of it as someone speaking to me, and the curteous thing to do would be to listen. I tend to avoid YRO, security issues, and stuff that I don't understand. I believe that they are important but it's not like I'm going to be able to do something about it anytime soon, and get some good value out of it. I also don't read about hardware, 802.11 [or what that number is], wifi, tivo, and Macs. I have absolutely no access to any of these things, and it would be a waste of my time.

I usually don't post at all, except when it comes to moral issues. In that type of a situation, I'll: ride in on my tall white horse; then look down my long nose [correct expression?]; shout, "You're wrong!! You're all SO *BLOODY* WRO-O-O-ONG!!!"; gallop away for a few metres; come back and say, "Oh, sorry about that. I didn't mean to splash foam all over you."; wipe away any remaining foam; and then gallop off into the sunset.
  • there will probably be more to follow.

i post in journals a lot. i post in ms, amd, tech, video games, and other stuff if i catch the discussion early enough that my ideas haven't been stated too much yet.

oh, and star wars. that's why i posted here. journal entry + star wars = had to post. :)
