Submission + - Google tracks you on torrent and porn sites 7

An anonymous reader writes: Think Google can only track you search habits? Think again. This site survey found that 40 of the top100 websites use Google-analytics as their web analysis software. Sites like mininova and youporn included. Google dominates the search engine world and now as a centralized service dominate the none-search website metrics. I am glad they do. I will be immortalized in Google databases as Google scientists of the future analyze my search habits, movies I like to see and types of girls I would like to meet.

Submission + - Wikileaks releases SECRET U.S. report on Fallujah (wikileaks.org)

James Hardine writes: The open government group Wikileaks has released its first classified SECRET U.S intelligence report — on the battle of Fallujah, together an SECRET satellite imagery of Abu Ghraib The report is classified SECRET/NOFORN. NOFORN means do not share with US allies such as the UK, Australia and Canada. According to the report former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld launched the assault before marines were ready because the Iraqi town, situated 40 miles from the center of Baghdad, had become "a symbol of resistance that dominated international headlines". Similar considerations eventually destroyed the mission. Coalition air strikes were conducted during the three week cease-fire, which was a "bit of a misnomer" and the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal contributed to the politically driven final peace settlement. The settlement left Coalition Provisional Authority chief Paul Bremer "furious". The report concludes stating that "Information operations are increasingly important in a 21st Century world..." The report comes after a string of coups for site in the past month, including releasing Guantanamo Bay's manuals and and busting it's public affairs office conducting illegal propaganda posts on the internet.

"I noticed young kids losing their smiles, losing their hair. And I said to myself, 'Today's chemotherapy is cruel. There's gotta be a better way to cure cancer,'" Kanzius told ABC News. ... Using pie pans, spare parts from ham radios and know-how from his days as a radio engineer, he invented the first generation of what would become a machine that uses radio waves — not radioactivity — to fight cancer.

Submission + - China Bans All Hollywood Films

clintonogamy writes: China has decided to block the import of all Hollywood movies, but they haven't specified a reason. It may be due to US pressure to crack down on copyright violations, or in response to the US selling arms to Taiwan, or to protect their fine Chineese film industry. From TFA...

China has banned Hollywood films, at least until February and possibly until May, over a trade row with the United States and because American movies are proving too successful and hitting box office for local films. Chinese authorities are also said to be miffed over the US's continued arms sales to Taiwan.

Submission + - WoW as a lifesaver

maotao writes: Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports today how a rather annoying WoW skill saved a young boys life.
Translated from the swedish article

"Twelveyear old Hans Jorgen Olsen were out on a stroll in a north norwegian forest together with his ten year old sister when they were attacked by an agressive moose. — My sister ran away but I tried to scare the moose. When I noticed the moose didn't stop I started to run as well. The moose followed me and after a while I had was too tired to continue, the boy told norwegian newspaper Avisen.

The moose butted him in the back but the blow was absorbed by his backpack. As he fell to the ground he used a trick he'd learned in "World of Warcraft".

— When you reach level 30 you learn the skill "feign death" so that's what I did and after a short while the moose walked away, the boy told the newspaper "

Submission + - Dyslexia is Rampant Among Entrepreneurs

Hugh Pickens writes: "Five years ago Fortune magazine published a story about dyslexic business leaders including Craig McCaw, who pioneered the cellular industry; Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways; Charles Schwab, founder of the discount brokerage firm; and Paul Orfalea, founder of the Kinko's copy chain. Now a study of entrepreneurs in the United States by Julie Logan, professor of entrepreneurship at the Cass Business School in London, has found that 35 percent of the entrepreneurs she surveyed identified themselves as dyslexic. "We found that dyslexics who succeed had overcome an awful lot in their lives by developing compensatory skills," Logan says. "If you tell your friends and acquaintances that you plan to start a business, you'll hear over and over, 'It won't work. It can't be done.' But dyslexics are extraordinarily creative about maneuvering their way around problems." Mr. Orfalea, who left Kinko's seven years ago, and who now dabbles in a hodgepodge of business undertakings, is almost proud of having dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. "I get bored easily, and that is a great motivator," he said. "I think everybody should have dyslexia and A.D.D.""

Submission + - Google sued for $5b for crimes against humanity (theregister.co.uk) 2

mytrip writes: "A Pennsylvania crusader has slapped Google with a $5bn lawsuit, claiming that the world's largest search engine is endangering his personal safety.

With a suit filed in federal court, Dylan Stephen Jayne insists that the company is guilty of "crimes against humanity" because its name turns up when his social security number is scrambled and turned upside down.

By calling itself Google, Jayne argues, Google has exposed him to attack by an army of culturally diverse, net-savvy terrorists. "A person regardless of race or religion that wishes to cause acts of terrorism would look for social security numbers that are made readily available on the public use databases," his suit reads.

And he's adamant that if Google claims ignorance, many people could end up dead or buck naked. "The 'I don't know' defense obviously is a waste of money, time, and puts the lives of Americans and illegal aliens at risk of death or serious undress.""
