Usually the settlement documents specifically state that if the patent/etc. is declared invalid that they get to keep the money anyway.

So... $45 million is not a bad run for this troll. It will probably encourage them to keep the extortion ring going with another worthless patent.

I see no mention in the newegg blog about the patent being declared invalid, only that newegg was declared not infringing upon it.

While I'm sure this ruling will help anyone else in the future who is simply using SSL on their web server, it doesn't really help anyone else the troll sues who they feel is using SSL/RC4 differently.

They only really need a new worthless patent to go after the same targets they already sued or planned to sue for the same reason.
They get to keep using this same worthless patent still however, just against a different group of targets.

The difference is the online password manager requires I supply my password to them - weakness/trust issues there. With an online password manager you have to trust that they are hacker-proof (unlikely) and you have to assume that all staff are trustworthy, and you have to assume that security services also are keeping your info safe.

Backing up my password is as easy as emailing myself the encrypted passwords to a couple of email addresses - takes a few seconds. My password database doesn't require that I be online, very useful if a internet/network info is in the password database.

When I go to war... I go to WAR.

I wonder if we are still going to war. We do a few 'surgical' drone strike that take out one or 2 guys and leave the rest of the family alive (and angry). But it used to be that you'd burn to the ground entire cities, where the few survivors would be only too relieved to see you coming and not shoot them afterwards. I wonder if we are going towards a state of perpetual low level warfare. At least when you wipe out an entire country you have a generation or two of peace afterwards. I think we are improving but I'm not so certain. Remember, a massive amount of violence solved the nazi problem.

Since my password manager is a simple piece of software - an encrypted database of my passwords that runs on my computer with the data on my computer, I'd say yes, I have no reason not to trust it. I wouldn't put my bank login details in to it though, because of vulnerabilities + trojans + keystroke-loggers.

Trust an online password manager - hell no.

Which actually sucks for license payers because over 450 million won't be paying for BBC content which would reduce the license.

The BBC sells it's programming via BBC worldwide which looks like some kind of massive fraudulent organisation, the amount they spend to sell the programs doesn't make any sense, go look for yourself if you don't believe me. I can only assume someone is embezzling tens of millions of pounds at the British license payers expense.

Just privatise it already, people don't understand the level of pro-corporate, pro-gov't, pro-establishment bias there is with the BBC. The woman who runs the BBC was head of auditing at HSBC whilst it was money-laundering for criminals and hiding money for the wealthy in Switzerland.
