Submission + - New Star Wars Trilogy Announced (adventureamigos.net)

Scott Lockwood writes: "When Peter Mayhew signed his contract for the new trilogy of films (episodes I — III) there was a rider that he had to sign guaranteeing he would agree to appear in Episode VII. I think most of us at the time thought that was a marketing stunt, but it now appears to be a reality after all. George Lucus, and of all people, James Cameron confirm there will be a 3rd trilogy. From the article:

Lucas: “Our generation had it’s legend. Our journey had a first step. And my saga had it’s beginning. Nowthis great and epic journey needs to have an end.”

Cameron: “With great hope comes great responsibility, and I will ensure that at last the mighty Galactic Empire sees its revenge, and that the New Republic and it’s Jedi protectors rise once again!”

Lucas: “There are three more tales to tell, and Mr. Cameron the force is strong with you.”"

Comment EVE (Score 1) 308

If EVE counts, then I'm in the last category for sure. I play on the train into work, I do some things that don't require a lot of attention at work, I play on the way home, and until I go to bed. It's an amazing game.

We have a saying. When a player leaves Eve Online for WoW, the IQ of both communities goes up.

I think stupid people get what they deserve. No more, no less. Would I have done that? No. Should she have known better? Yes. Should he? Likely also yes. The difference is, the tattoo artist had a signed release, so as real world trolling goes, he's the winner here. The Dentist comes in second since she's now being investigated for malpractice.

Then again, I'm one of those people who spends most of his waking hours in EVE ONLINE, where people are SUPPOSED to be dicks to one another. :-)

Submission + - Smashwords Now Vows to Fight Paypal Censorship, Start "a Fire" (smashwords.com)

Miracle Jones writes: "Mark Coker, Founder of Smashwords, has negotiated a delay with PayPal regarding their recent pressure on ebook publishers to delete legal erotic content and now intends to fight this decision. Said Coker: "PayPal is asking us to censor legal fiction. Regardless of how one views topics of rape, bestiality and incest, these topics are pervasive in mainstream fiction. We believe this crackdown is really targeting erotica writers. This is unfair, and it marks a slippery slope. We don't want credit card companies or financial institutions telling our authors what they can write and what readers can read. Fiction is fantasy. It's not real. It's legal." Some Smashwords writers are spitefully tagging their own books with the objectionable concepts that PayPal wants deleted. Stephen Fry recently tweeted about the situation, calling it "madness." "Let's start a little fire, shall we?" said Coker."

Submission + - Huh. Epic Fail, Canada. (chrismilloy.ca) 1

Scott Lockwood writes: Are you Canadian? Are you transgender? Do you want to fly? Well, too bad — as of last July, you can't anymore. FTA, "5.2 (1) An air carrier shall not transport a passenger if

Submission + - Writers Demand YouTube "Literature" Category (mediabistro.com)

Miracle Jones writes: Galleycat, The Rumpus, and The New Yorker are reporting on a new campaign by The Fiction Circus to get a "literature" category added to YouTube, since there are already categories for entertainment, politics, blogs, movies, comedy, sports, music, education, and science. From The Fiction Circus:

“You will note that while Google has made serious, extremely well-organized attempts to purchase and control all out-of-print literature and create a massive online digital library, they have not bothered to create a ‘literature’ category for YouTube, revealing once again that they would be terrible shepherds for the human inheritance of written knowledge. Perhaps it can be argued that literature is ‘entertainment.’ But aligning literature with ‘entertainment’ is disingenuous. Literature is never merely ‘entertainment.'"

Is this a good idea? Why doesn't YouTube have categories for arts and literature?
