Submission + - Boxee v1.0, D-Link Boxee Box Coming Nov. 10 (deviceguru.com)

__aajbyc7391 writes: Following nearly three years of alpha- and beta-level releases, Boxee's A/V-streaming software platform will finally go gold at a November 10 launch event in New York City. However, v1.0 initially will be limited to D-Link's Boxee Box, which will start shipping by mid-November, whereas the v1.0 Boxee update for users of PCs running OS X, Windows, and Linux will roll out later. Boxee hasn't indicated whether v1.0 represents a major restructuring, minor enhancement, or bug-fix update, but some significant Boxee beta updates have already occurred this year, as have additions of numerous new content sources via plug-ins developed both by Boxee and third-parties. Meanwhile, Logitech's Google TV box and Sony's Google TV-enabled LCD HDTVs are both in pre-order and should ship within a month.

Summary of the current article: Here's a tiny shred of scientific evidence that it may have happened before, therefore it is not impossible.

While I agree with your post overall, you're actually giving the article more credit than it deserves. The article says that "One reason this idea seems credible is that scientists think it may already have happened. Some models suggest that space-time expanded at a rate faster than light speed during a period of rapid inflation shortly after the Big Bang."

All the words that I italicized above indicate that this "evidence" is little more than conjecture. Oh, so if this thing happened before (which we're guessing since we can't figure out any other way to explain it...and we're smart folks, so we'll accept it as fact until someone comes up with a better "fact" to stick in our house of cards), then we might be able to reproduce it. The whole idea is laughable. I'm all for scientific research, but this just seems like someone's money being wasted on research that's going nowhere fast...I'm guessing it's my tax dollars being spent at warp speed.

Did Humans Get Their Big Brains From Neanderthals? 579

MCTFB writes, "According to CNN, human beings may have acquired a gene for developing bigger brains from Neanderthal man. Apparently, 70% of the world's population has a variant of a gene regulating brain size, with this variant being most common in people of European descent (where Neanderthal man lived alongside ancient humans), and least common in people of African descent (where Neanderthal man was non-existent). While modern day eugenicists might all too eagerly read into these findings to draw their own politically biased conclusions, people such as myself, who happen to be of northern European ancestry, may find it fascinating that somewhere in our lineage ancient humans and Neanderthals decided to make love and not war on the ancient plains of Eurasia."
