What It's Like To Be the Scientific Consultant For The Big Bang Theory 253

sciencehabit (1205606) writes "Science sits down with David Saltzberg, who's been The Big Bang Theory's one and only science consultant since it premiered. Saltzberg is an astrophysicist at the University of California, Los Angeles. He chats about how the portrayal of science on the show has changed over the years, whether it turns kids away from science, and how you can get your own job as a scientific consultant in Hollywood."

How can users protect themselves from sometimes life endangering software bugs?"

Simple, with a car make sure it has a throttle cable and a clutch peddle.

I know I can hear it now, you can't buy a car with a throttle cable and you can't drive standard in a city.

If everyone stopped buying cars with throttle by wire, they would stop making them. The rest of the world drives standard in a city, you can too.

Don't forget to hard disable the microphone on the laptop if it has one. There is a malware that can communicate using high frequency sound, from a networked machine to un-networked one. Of course both machines have to be infected. Probably with a virus attached to a file of the networked box.

I see your point about the mindless zombies in today’s world. At least in the USA in the area I live grammar is horrible and driving is worse. They run stop signs read lights, and if no lines on the road will drive on the wrong side. On line marked roads they have rumble strips on the middle line to stop the head on accidents from people crossing over.

Personally I don't think this is because they are just driving and writing the way everyone else is, I think the problem is that people are lazy and don't want to expend the energy to do things correctly.

Because you didn't bother to log in you will probably never read this reply, but since I am not lazy I thought I would write it anyway.

Not being a coward I had to go to beta.slashdot.org (you will have to copy paste it, a link will send you to meta). When I get there it pretends to be Mork and says it can't give me any comments. Perhaps they decided to use an off site java source for the commets which I automatically block.

If beta goes live with off site scripting then I will have to decide if it is worth the effort to enable the script it needs or just find somewhere else to go.

How can a head check result in you rear-ending another car?. The only way I see is if someone is not following the car in front at the legal 2 seconds or the recommended 3 to 4 seconds. I doubt this happens to tailgaters because I never see them driving using mirrors or head checking, just plow their own hole through.
