It has been banned for all but the very rich, thanks to a wave of new regulations. 90 percent, yes 90 percent of my industry is gone and we are paring back.
Capitalism used to be a fun game to play in America.
Weaponize it: soldiers who serve for home and memory.
Smart carriers don't want you to check bags, the hold is much more valuable carrying freight and freight doesn't require the army of workers that checked bags do.
They even changed it for classic.slashdot.org, wrtf?
Individual end users have never received settlement free peering, only major networks. The big guys occasionally kicked L3 and Cogent because they tended to have more providers than consumers on their network since they weren't part of the last mile club, but otherwise things work fairly well. Demanding that every end network be able to perform settlement free peering is insane and will lead to nothing but trouble. The biggest problem is that this kind of thing fuels an appearance that the big telcos were right and that the FCC rules are overbearing, which is unfortunate since they're just trying to rein in the worst excesses and abuses of the companies that hold hostage the future of our information based economy.
HDHomeRun just did a kickstarter for a new DVR/live app platform that will work with the Prime (though it won't allow restricted content to be recorded). It's my understanding that other than technical glitches almost all providers just leave things on copy freely unless it's a premium channel like HBO.
Let me see if I've got this straight. The Sunday Times found some evidence which they presented to the UK government, and the government anonymously verified said evidence, but the Times decided to print only the government statements without the evidence?
Would I be entirely off the mark in guessing that the "evidence" also came from an anonymous government source? Oh right, this reporter "is sorry to disappoint you again," but he "does not know."
It seems to me that the Department of Disinformation is having a difficult time hiring quality employees.
You need a cablecard compatible tuner from Ceton, Hauppauge, or HDHomeRun.
There's FiredTV launcher, an alternative home/launcher for the FireTV line that shows sideloaded apps.
At least as an Amazon Prime member I want a FireTV stick with Kodi on it as I want access to all the Prime Instant content (the Kodi addon for this sucks completely) but also access to my local DVR content through Kodi since the FireTV doesn't do DLNA. Plex is the only other alternative and I find the interface sucks and it's really big about pushing their pay channels instead of getting me to my own content.
Uh, 50% of BMI fees go to the songwriters which is a good bit more than the labels give them.
Many motherboards have gone to all solid state caps for reliability and performance reasons, those will have little problem with aging. Tin whiskers with RoHS solder is probably a bigger concern, though my understanding is that industry has managed to mostly stop their formation with newer solder and flux formulations (the problem of course would be to make sure that your components were made with a modern solder, and not the cheapest thing available to the outsourced manufacturing firm)
Luckily ATX has been the power standard for so long that if you build/order your PCs with standard supplies that it will be no issue to find replacements, there are literally billions of them out there at this point.
