Hadoop isn't a database.

It's a data processing system for massive quantities of data processed and distilled in large batches. If you're trying to treat it as a database, you're doing it wrong. The article is simple using Hadoop for the wrong purpose.

You use Hadoop to reduce large amounts of data into smaller more manageable collections of useful data, which can then be queried real time.

Therefore, anyone who sends a private correspondance through a postal system, should have no expectation of privacy. ?

No, you shouldn't. If you do, you're pretty stupid.

The ONLY reason your mail is 'private' in any given postal system is because people don't care about your messages. The cost of looking for something tasty in your message is too high to be worth it.

In an electronic system, with no encryption, the cost is nearly 0, meaning its cost effective to do it to everyone and every bit of data transmitted.

You do not mail 'secrets' around, anyone with a clue knows that. You have your own courier for that if its actually that important.

Most government systems try to maintain a limited level of privacy so that other random citizens don't get easy access to your mail, but its not generally very much effort. In the US its effectively 0 and the only thing slowing people down is the idea that you can get in a lot of trouble for peaking in someone else's mailbox and futzing with their mail. For the majority of the population, stealing their mail is trivial, just open the box.

Or, people being accused of being racists every time they turn around.

Believe it or not, the vast majority of people are decent people. They'll help you when you are down and they'll cheer you when you succeed.

But I can understand the AC's point. They have been broad brushed as implicit racists simply because of the color of their skin. And while your first response is probably "welcome to the club", realize that you are being just as racist and bigoted as those you accuse.

So, the cheapest TV stick imaginable has a Cortex A9 processor, so reading about the A9 processor in development by Apple is something that doesn't inspire much in the way of excitement up front for me. But it looks like Apple's A5 is more / less the Cortex A9 with some tweaks, so now we literally have two similar products with the same name that are generations apart.

I know of their technical strength in the low-power scene, and the MIPS/Watt race, ARM still leads by a mile, but ARM could also really stand to have some standards for naming the variants in a semi-consistent way so that the merely technically proficient have a chance of keeping up. And, (dare I say it?) this is what trademarks are for and why they exist.

Buses do nothing when they're stuck in the same traffic everyone else is.

I would take exception to this!

1) Time spent on a bus is time not spent concentrating on traffic. Relax, read a book, maybe do some work.

2) Every person on a bus is a car not on the road, and that results in sharply lighter traffic.

I honestly have no idea why buses aren't free. Putting a bit of economics behind the problem can make a dramatic difference, even eliminating traffic jams completely.

However, the inane aspect about it is that while Republicans blamed Obama for what happened in Benghazi, fact remains that their position on Libya/Qadaffi was no different from the Democrats.

Some think using force is the solution to every problem and some believe democracy is the solution to every problem.

The disaster of the Arab spring is what you get when you combine the two ideas.

While it's true that Sadam's military was full of essentially modern day Nazis, we weren't attacked by Nazis on 9/11. We went after the wrong bunch.

Saudi Arabia would have been a better target but the Bushes were too busy holding hands with the King.

And for anyone who doesn't remember, this was the film that Obama blamed the Benghazi attacks on. Despite later admitting that, no, oops, that wasn't what caused the attacks at all.

"Oops"?

The attack happened on Sept 11th just before the 2012 election.

You don't really think it was an accident that they blamed some film-maker and threw him in jail to deflect responsibility from themselves, do you?
