There will, never, ever be a "killer app" for Firefox OS. And who cares? This isn't a video game console. People expect a phone to have all the basic apps like Facebook/Runkeeper/Whatever, and it's impossible to think such an app would be developed for a single platform. Nobody buys an Android because they can't get Hulu for iOS.

Firefox will succeed if people prefer the look & feel of the OS, and if it's easy to get, and if it easily runs all the apps expected of it. As long as it works, who cares if it's OS native or not?

I love that article. 5 seconds of Googling shows that Elop didn't actually become CEO of Nokia until the end of 2010, but for some reason the article decides to start half a year earlier, with the sales record of the previous CEO, who was forced out for poor performance. Nope. Elop came on board at at the time when Android has just recently surpassed Symbian, and when iPhone was dominant in the category of expensive smart phones. Plus, Symbian sucked too hard to really be called a proper smartphone.

Is this really true? Even poor people get double-paned windows, a Prius C costs all of $17K (and generally speaking, cheaper cars are smaller and less performance-oriented, and therefore consume less gas). And there's laughably few tax credits for energy efficiency. It used to be a 10% deduction for $500, up to the lifetime of the house. A drop in the bucket. Now it's nothing, aside from special programs.

There's nothing magical about existing fuel taxes. If increasing fuel efficiency causes revenues to come up short, why not raise the tax a few more cents?

I don't understand this bit. Why would you switch out of emacs for such things? Emacs has web (eww, w3), email, tramp (remote editing/shells), TeX modes, etc.
No need to tax your muscle memory, it's all there in emacs.

Besides, on a mac, most things do Emacs keybindings :-)

I'd love a yubikey neo (nfc) with the form factor of a Nike Fuel Band, but a bit lighter/slimmer. Something I could wear and even shower with, so I'd never worry about my auth token taking a walk. For bonus points make it difficult to unclip (so I'd wake if someone tried to take it off), and have a slide-switch to disable the NFC, so no one could read the auth token at a distance and replay it...

I don't think you can get 4K projectors yet.
Also, my long long room with peaked roof wouldn't be ideal for the projector.

You can use it to store your GPG keys and then have GPG act as your SSH agent, so you can require the physical token to ssh to servers.
I've got my Mac setup so I need my Yubikey for sudo as well.

At work we use the GPG key on a Yubikey stashed _inside_ a server to sign our software releases. Someone could hack their way onto the server and if they became root could sign software with the key, but they couldn't copy the key to use later.

Sure, but if they have to destroy the key to get the secret, and are not just able to non-destructively (side-channel power attacks were published and Yubico added mitigations) get them, then I'd probably notice and use my offline revocation cert to revoke my credentials.
