So what does it do that we can't already do using 1: the web in general and 2: twitter in particular?

1: meh... It is the web... it's what people do on the web, make new things. 2: It's not twitter. There are a lot of people who would think that's a definite positive.

As long as it doesn't want access to all your personal information from any and all networks you might belong to, sure why not. But really, it's probably just a way for Mozilla and the others involved to cash in on data mining. It's interesting only in who is doing it.

Gas taxes pay for roads and subsidize transit. As cars get more fuel efficient or become electric, they funds dry up. That's the reason for the increase. Your car is more efficient so you are paying less gas tax... this is just bringing it up to what people were paying before. Ultimately they may add more taxes but these will become moot when vehicles are all electric or hydrogen or whatever. Ultimately the taxes will shift to road pricing. Tolls for all roads based on GPS.

Submission + - Selfie of Stroke Symptoms Finally Gets Woman Correct Diagnosis

theshowmecanuck writes: Canada's CBC TV reports that a woman suffering from a transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke) was diagnosed by the attending emergency room physician as suffering from stress, given tips on how to manage it and sent home. As she left the hospital she again began suffering the same symptoms in her car. Thinking quick she pulled out her smart phone and started taking a video selfie of herself to show the doctors the classic symptoms of a stroke. She was originally stricken at home and remembering the symptoms of a stroke from a public service announcement, went to the hospital when the symptoms subsided. After the second episode, her quick thinking and video convinced the doctors they were wrong and she was right, and they sent her for the proper diagnostic testing and treatment they should have given in first place. The article has a link to the video she took, but here it is in case, and I know it is unlikely on Slashdot, you don't want to read it.

I was going to move back to Ontario but not after the liberals got a majority government. Especially if you take into account this (here is a synopsis):

Per person, Ontarians currently owe $20,166 (Cdn) compared to $3,844 for Californiansâ"more than 5 times the per capita level of debt. Consequently, Ontarians shoulder much higher debt servicing costs: 9.2% of budget revenues in Ontario are devoted to interest payments compared to 2.8% in California.

People make fun of California and talk about them teetering on bankruptcy. But they look positively peachy compared to California. Granted this is from a right wing think tank, but the truth is the truth. And the new liberal government's budget proposals promise to run 10+ billion dollar deficits per year for the following several years. Ontario is doomed. It is the last place anyone would want to go now.
