so dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda && dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda && dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda && dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda etc?
There are always legitimate reasons getting in the way of buying the perfect component aren't there! *sigh*
That's a meaningless comparison tbh. The difference is likely that of 'el-cheapo' vs 'upper-mid-range'. The el-cheapo is probably not as stable when you get closer to its rated output.
An upper-mid-range 400W would probably have been fine.
Also, a general question on efficiencies; Do the higher power rated PSUs generally have higher efficiencies at lower power outputs? IOW, given 2 comparable model 'high efficiency' PSU's, one rated at 1000W and the other at 500W, would the 1000W one be more efficient than the 500W one at, say, 250W?
That could make the 'over the top' ones worthwhile even at lower power levels...
Not necessarily. You could be drinking it and say it's *still* half full.
Likewise when filling, you could say it's *still* half empty.
So still reverses polarity, or something?
Dual zones? Is that like multi-users?
I have 2 (amongst others) accounts on my N7, one is my personal account and one is just for my business. They are nicely separated. If they go to this model on the phone version of Android then it will be great for keeping personal and business apart (as opposed to giving the device to different users which doesn't make as much sense for a phone as it does a tablet).
Or is the BB dual zone thing completely different to this?
OK, here is a test for you. Using your regular channels, can you see if you can currently get any of the following?
All the Curious George episodes (I can only find 1ep on easynews)
Harold and the Purple Crayon episodes (None on ezn)
All the Thomas & Friends (A few on ezn)
Go Diego Go (I can only find a few german ones)
Similar luck on torrent sites too, but I can't check right now.
I won't go on, but there is lots of stuff for kids (and adults too, but granted, not as much) that's not easy to find unless it's a currently mainstream show.
I used to HATE netflix up here in Canada and had a few rants on slashdot about it, but for me, it has finally gotten to the stage where it is 'sufficient'. Sure, it's no replacement for prime-time TV, but it's certainly a good replacement for kids TV and idle viewing TV.
One step closer to cancelling Rogers next year
And all tracks will black flag you for running a timer to check y our lap times.
What? Is this a USA thing? Just a certain class that you race in?
Every track I have ever raced on in the UK & Europe allows lap timing. Never heard of it being disallowed before.
I think this way forward likely HELPS power usage if anything.
Let's take 2 power-equivalent processors. Both use 1W at the lowest non-idle power setting. Processor A is a 2 core model, B is a 48 core.
Each core on the 2 core model A uses approx 0.5W (ignoring overheads etc)
Each core on the 48 core model B uses approx 0.02W (ignoring overheads etc)
In this instance, it's likely that each of the model B cores will be one 24th as computationally powerful as a model A core.
If you have some trivial tasks (i.e. most stuff that is running when you are not doing heavy lifting) running, on model A they might use 1 core on it's lowest power setting of 0.5W.
That same trivial task on the 48 core model B might still only use 1 core which would then obviously greatly reduce the power usage. This would still work out as a power saving if it needed more than 1 model B core (anywhere up to around 15-20 cores depending on SMP overhead/efficiency)
Of course, this is only a generalisation, ignores overheads and will only help with processes that need significantly less than 1 core on a conventional 1/2/4 core architecture; which is most of the non-lifting workload of any CPU.
I think it's a good thing...
Why not concentrate on tablets and phones first?
1. They are the fastest growing segment and "everyone will have one"
2. This will then be your primary computing device that follows you around. It's with you when you need it, because...
3. It's easier to use a fully mobile device as a workstation device (just add a keyboard/monitor and fashionable pointing device) than it is to use a workstation device as a pocket computer.
4. Power savings from this kind of architecture are more critical on pocket devices
5.
6. PROFIT! (Sorry)
I think it's a good way forwards. But that's just opinion so...
And we can stop then because, well, you know, 640 cores should be enough for anyone.
Except, if the stamp collectors were avidly denying the existence of, say, the internet as a form of communication and they were desperately recruiting new followers to denounce the word of TCPIP and it looked like the general population was getting more biased towards the belief of stamp collecting instead of believing in this internet thing, almost to the point where it may one day harm the internet itself (no believers to work on it), then wouldn't you be more forceful in your agenda in trying to convince these stamp collector fools that the internet is real and that only believing in stamps (and the old primarily postal method of communication) is not the way forwards?
I think that is the problem here. The religious anti-science types appear to be so good at gathering more masses to their way of thought that it could potentially harm science in the future.
I don't mind if someone is religious and keeps it amongst themselves, but when I see them getting into places of power and manipulating education to their favour, it bothers me highly and I appreciate the message that fanatics like Dawkins are trying to get across.
For example, when was the last time you needed to convert moles to something else?

I'm sorry, I was just using Apples very own wording. According to Apples website, there are, as I clearly stated, 3 different models of iPhone currently available.
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone/compare
Title on that page is "Compare iPhone models"
There is a similar page comparing the 2 iPad models too.
I don't see why everyone is arguing with me on this? All you have to do is go to Apples own website to confirm what I have been saying (with obvious exception to the speculation on the iPad Mini, deny it's coming if you want). Why can't we use facts in this discussion?
I listed (with the exception of iPad Mini, which I clearly stated is not available yet) those that are currently available on Apples very own store. They ARE all current models. iPhones 1-3 and the original iPad are NOT current models so I did not list them.
Wow...
