Win 7 was qualitatively better than XP in every respect and always has been.
Couple of exceptions:
1. Tweaking network adapter settings. XP: right click on icon in tray. Win7: dig about four levels deep into Network Settings.
2. Full Screen Console Mode. Not possible with WDDM.
