I routinely roll out of bed for calls from these shitlords at 2 AM because someone didnt set the callcenter ntp server in india properly.

Well, I don't seem to have a problem with recruiters calling me. I might get one or two a month. What I get from the Indian companies is spammed with lists of available contractors.
I did used to get a lot of calls from the Indian companies looking to recruit, but the moment they find out you are 1.) not Indian and 2.) not on an H1b, then they lose interest and don't call you anymore.

I mean, it's fun to work with new technology, right? So why not put it into your company's product so you can put it on your resume?
I had this happen at my previous company. I won't say what the open source project was that the other development team drummed up, but it was definitely something we could have finished the product without. They talked big about how it was going to be put into all of our products and make the company more efficient. It ended up only being used in one product, and the product, although in place at customers, has a very severe bug that the development team cannot figure out. Due to this open source project that they insisted on integrating, the company has to use Java 6, even though Java 6 was EOLed two years ago. Even though only that one open source project ties them to Java 6, all of the company's other products are also developed in Java 6, and the company makes customers use Java 6. Java 6 is no longer even available from Oracle without logging in. Java 7 is EOL in two months.

This is like when the hotels put up signs that say "In order to protect the environment, we will only trade out the linens every other day", instead of saying "In order to make more money for our stockholders, we will only trade out the linens every other day."

I would prefer they do the visual ads. That way I don't have to look at them and can ignore them as I do with all advertisements. Unfortunately, audio advertisements waste my time while I ignore them while the visual ones can just be occurring while i am doing something else and still listening to music.

They are enjoying the benefit of processing these transactions without any of the added extra cost of enforcing consumer protection. Instead, if you say you didn't buy something, then they say "tough. If you don't pay it, we are going to report you to the credit agencies,"

That's probably the difference then. I had an individual plan prior to Obamacare because coverage through the company was too expensive. I paid about 1/3 of what I would have paid through my company insurance for my family. People used to complain that you couldn't get affordable insurance except through a company, but I think that was a rumor spread by the corporations to keep people from leaving them.
Unfortunately, when Obamacare came along, my previously affordable insurance went about by a factor of 4 or 5. It was still cheaper than my company's insurance plan, which also went up by about 50%, so I stayed with my individual plan, but I had to switch to a different individual plan to get it down to only 3 times the previous year's plan.

Not sure how well it works in relationships. Oh, wait, the divorce rate continues to rise even though there is a huge jump in the number of couples living together and not getting married at all. I don't see anything wrong with red light cameras per se. The problem is the money grubbing on the back end which entices the shorter yellows. There should be a standard measurement for how long a yellow is, and it should be based upon the speed limit, reaction time and the length of the intersection. If the yellow is not as long as that, then the road is closed until it is fixed.
Since people who blast through red lights two seconds after it turned red are plenty numerous, I for one am more than happy that they get busted. Perhaps the red light can snap all the license plates of the people who observed the guy blowing the red light and didn't crash into him. Then some large percentage of the fine can be awarded to the people that the red light runner placed in harm's way so that he could avoid another 45 second light cycle.

So the proposal is to buy each of the students an ipad, so the cost is $600 times the number of students PLUS the $600-$800 because as we know, the cost of an ebook is the same as the physical book (sometimes even higher). And now you have a piece of electronics floating around that is going to get lost or stolen, and the parents will have to pay $600 for it, as opposed to if a book gets lost or stolen, the parent only has to pay $30 or so. Add to that that an ebook is not reader friendly, and it seems like the whole idea starts at bad and gets worse from there.

Well, I am not aware of anyone whose insurance is only going up 3-5% per year and am not aware of anyone for whom their insurance didn't got up by at least 30% when Obamacare happened. And I know a lot of people for whom it doubled or tripled and one case where it went up by a factor of 5.
My situation was that I had a perfectly good Major Medical plan, and then when Obamacare happened, I was no longer able to get that plan, and they put me into a plan which was still Major Medical, but the coverage was not as good and the deductibles were higher, and it cost 4 times as much. I was able to eventually find the cheapest available plan, which was only a little over twice as much as the pre-Obama plan, but it also went up by about 25% the next year.
