Keep in mind that happy users are silent users.

Oh STFU with that. What the heck is the point in getting feedback if all you're going to say it "screw it, most users are silent and happy"? What we KNOW is from the feedback, and it's overwhelmingly negative. Here's my feedback:

I don't like tiny icons.
I don't like black and white icons.
I don't like the reduced toolbar customizability of Australis.
I don't like the lack of a status bar.
I don't like a popup for my bookmarks by default instead of a sidebar.
And I definitaly Do Not Like tabs on top!

All of those changes were tested before major release, and major opposition to them was voiced. On every occasion, people opposing the change were told to fuck off. So I (and many others) did. Fuck you, Firefox, with your shitty UX changes.

I've already been lucky enough to get FTTC, and my connection varies between 50/5 and 20/2, I'd say. Other than some improvement in my upload speeds, I'm pretty much happy with the bandwidth. Why would I need more? I have an uncapped connection, but if I had 500Mbps I rather doubt my ISP would be willing to offer THAT uncapped... if I could even find anything that big (legally) to download on a regular basis.

This just seems like a big PR thing BT are doing so they can tell simpletons like David Cameron that "the UK now has super-mega-ultra-uber fast broadband". I'm with the rest of ya; finish the FTTC rollout, get that too ~100% of the population.

FTTC should be enough for anyone. :-)

Not really. If you're the kind of person who builds custom computers, when you call them up just say you replaced the motherboard. If they really push (and I've never had a problem with that) then just say the previous one went bad and had to be RMA'd or replaced. They're happy to remove the old motherboard from the license and apply the license to your new one.

Yep. My machine has had 3 new motherboards, 4 new gfx cards, 10 new RAM modules, 2 new hard drives, a new PSU, 2 new cases (one with additional go-faster stripes upgrade), 3 new montors, 4 new mice, a new keyboard and 5 new surround sound speakers. It's still going strong with the original OS.
