Quake

Journal Journal: This

1110pm PST

no this journal doesn't touch on quake, i just figured the image needs to be read off the /. hard drive more often.

just watched an episode of lexx with my longest-term roommate, who had never even heard of it before. i guess it's the first time i've watched it at home and not at and with my gf. she (my roommate) agrees that it's surreal (no entry yet, i'm not confident enough to start). we had both decided earlier in the evening to unjack from computer games for a while and watch tv. she had chosen beastmaster, which is so textbook bad that it's...really, this is not how to make good tv. or is it? maintaining that specific level of badness for an entire show? that takes SOME kind of talent.

contemplating my last week of non-school idyll, and what it'll be like to have 8:30 classes with the campus a ten minute walk and a half hour bus ride away. ouch comes to mind. oh well, probably won't be as bad as i fear. shouldn't let my fancies get the better of me.

contemplating the first week of school insanity. i've taken some programming before, and am re-reading and enjoying tannenbaum's "structured computer organization" (ohmygodiamageek) to get me in the mood for learning in classrooms again.

oh crap slow typing and constant editing make it 1211am. better luck next journal.

Journal Journal: This 1

1104pm PST

at the mild, thinly veiled request of red5, who thinks i might have some interesting tales to tell, today's journal.

woke up at an ungodly early hour at my lady fair's condo. after the morning ritual, she went back to sleep and i tried to make titanium toast (5.1.4) work on my brother's ibook with OSX 10.0.4 installed. four coasters and two grey hairs later, good lady woke up, kissed me, and went out to get danishes and java. didn't say (or suggest) "pay attention to me instead of that toy". and friends wonder why i am besotted. one coaster and one predjudicial shutdown later, i'm enjoying fresh java and we're discussing what kind of bicycle she could get as a replacement for her recently stolen one.

victoria, bc is a kind of cycling mecca. if you have fenders, you can pretty much cycle year-round. i used to work as a cycle courier here, and in the 7+ years of risking life and limb for other people's mail, there was only one day where the weather stopped me. anyways, bikes galore ==> bike thieves. grrr. more on this in a later entry.

she wandered off to her chiropractor and i wandered off home and started researching ways to possibly make the infernal cd burner work, or transfer the files to his home g4 (10.1) without having a crossover cable. not immediately obvious, may have to do some (gasp!) experiments (gasp!) and get realworld data.

returned my brother's ibook and burner and admitted defeat. purchasing a hub or router may be unavoidable.

brainwave hits six hours later. i could temporarily scavenge my own hub for this project.
oops. slow typing makes it ~midnight. don't want this to be tomorrow's journal. and, for the record:
