Broke and his defense team quit without explanation. Can't imagine any connection there, eh?
Uhm, you're supposed to notice this before you sign, not after you go bankrupt.
Sorry, the limit is 1 conspiracy theory per post.
If you look at the absorption and efficiency plots in the linked nature abstract, the improvement is pretty broad spectrum as it is. Based on the Fourier analysis plots, it does seem like a slightly wider pit spacing would better concentrate the energy in their desired sweet spot, but CDs and DVDs would be too wide. HD-DVD actually looks like it might have the most ideal pit spacings.
Now that they have a proof of concept, it is an obvious thing for researchers to try different pit sizes and patterns in order to optimize the efficiency
Actually, that already happened. As the abstract of the paper notes, previous research has already identified how to theoretically optimize patterns, but arbitrary patterns require expensive photo lithography equipment to create. This research shows that an existing inexpensive mass production technique generates results that are almost as good as the optimized patterns, but not quite as good because the spacing of the pits is a bit too periodic (especially across tracks rather than along them).

Another team tried it with Star Wars discs and coundn't reproduce the effect.
So they use oil to mean coal?
I do not think so...
I think they actually mean oil but have no clue that it is not really used for generation of electricity. I as does the gov lump bunker, gasoline, and diesel under oil but coal????
I will be 50 next year so it is not ageing.
THe thing is that people forget just how bad it was in the past. In the 60s people where sure that the Bald Eagle and the Bison would go extinct. In the 1970s lake Erie was considered dead and a river in Ohio was so polluted that it caught fire. People were predicting that humans would be on the brink of extinction by 2000.
As education and standards of living go up population growth goes down. China forced this issue in ways that I find immoral but Indias population growth will soon start to slow. Recycling of a lot of materials along with new methods of extraction will increase the amount of commodities available. Take a look at historic trends and you will see commodity prices are still going down as a whole. Sure you see spikes now and then but the trend is down.
Frankly I wish I was younger because I think the future is going to be better than the past. But then I am a big history fan and know that it was not all sock hops and malt shops.
Fear motivates and sells.
Why would those businesses be targeted if the rioters weren't racist?
Uhh.....
Reminds me of a story my grandfather told me about his experience in the South Pacific. Punchline was "You're a dumb kid, that Japanese guy is a dumb kid, and you both stumbled upon each other. You've got nothing against each other, but because of something people thousands of miles away decided, only one of you was going to walk away that day."
Despite running some masterful election campaigns, he has displayed an amazing ineptitude when it comes to messaging during his reign.
Ahh so he has joined the likes of Trotsky and Che? He'll be in good company, helping Van Jones keep the bench warm.
I suspect your journal will be used as an endorsement for deals.monetize.slashdot.org in the near future.
